By the grace of Hashem,

1st day of Rosh Chodesh* Adar* 5715,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 9 Shevat*, whose delivery was somewhat delayed. You tell me that other functions (note 1: Those of a beadle) are being proposed to you, in a synagogue. You ask me whether you should accept them and reside on the premises. In fact, I have written (note 2: See letter no. 8044) to several Chassidim* that they should settle in Kfar Chabad*. Nevertheless, given your personal situation, which is particular, it is good to adopt the arrangement you describe. You will therefore reside in that place and endeavor to assume these functions.

Thus, you will have the merit of putting into practice the saying that the Tzemach Tzedek* addressed to someone: "He called the sun (Shemesh*) and the light shone: He called the beadle (Shamash*) and the light shone" (note 3: The terms Shemesh and Shamash are spelled the same way, with different vowelization). My father-in-law, the Rebbe, explains that one must illuminate the synagogue, the house of study, with one's vitality and, more generally, with an addition to the prayer and the teachings that are imparted therein. במענה על מכתבו מט' שבט - שנתעכב קצת דרך הילוכו - בו כותב שמציעים לו משרה נוספת... בבית הכנסת, ושואל אם לקחתה ולהסתדר שם גם בדירה.

הנה אף שבנוגע לכמה מאנ"ש שיחיו כתבתי ע"ד סידורם בכפר חב"ד, - מפני מצבו הפרטי והמיוחד נכונה ההסתדרות שכותב, שדירתו תהי' ב.. וישתדל בקבלת המשרה הנ"ל.

ויזכה לפתגם כ"ק אדמו"ר הצמח צדק שאמר לאחד, קרא לשמש ויזרח אור, קרא לשמש ויזרח אור, ופירש כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, להאיר את בית הכנסת ובית המדרש, ע"י חיות והוספה בכלל הן בהתפלה והן בהשיעורים הנלמדים. והשי"ת יצליחו.
