I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 17 Iyar*, in which you speak to me about your grandchildren who are in Milan (note 2: The children of Rav Shneur Zalman Gansburg). The expression you use in this correspondence is: "My Hashem! My Hashem!" Now, I do not understand the reason, for many people and, in particular, students, receive visas for France. Why would this be more difficult for your grandson and your granddaughter? Nevertheless, perhaps they solicited visas not only for themselves, but also for the entire family, which aroused the suspicion of the consul. You will therefore take counsel with a lawyer in Paris, who will indicate to you how to formulate the request so that your grandson and your granddaughter may continue their studies at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* and at the Beis Rivka* (note 3: Of Brunoy and of Yerres, in the Paris region). Furthermore, perhaps there is also another solution. Thus, they can take a transit visa through France.

You communicate to me the opinion of the doctor, who suggests that you go for a cure. This is judicious. May Hashem grant that you be healed thereby and that there be fulfilled, in this matter, the promise of the Torah* according to which: "the doctor has been authorized to heal." With my blessing,

במענה על מכתבו מי"ז אייר, בו כותב אודות נכדו ונכדתו שיחיו במילאן, וכלשונו במכתבו געוואלד געוואלד -

הנה איני מבין הסיבה לזה, כי הרי כמה אנשים ובפרט תלמידים מקבלים וויזות לצרפת - ומהו הקושי שגם נכדו ונכדתו יקבלו הרשיון.

ואולי בקש[ו] הרשיון לא בשבילם לבדם אלא בשביל כל המשפחה ובמילא עוררו חשד אצל הקונסול. ויתייעצו אצל עורך דין בפאריז איך להעריך הבקשה באופן שהנכד והנכדה יוכלו ללמוד בתו"ת ובבית רבקה.

ואפשר יש עוד עצה שיקחו טראנזיט דרך צרפת וכו'.

מ"ש אודות חוו"ד הרופא שמייעצו לנוסע לקחת אמבטאות, נכון הדבר. ויה"ר שיהי' לרפואה, ויתקיים בזה - התורה נתנה רשות לרופא לרפאות.
