Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8064 — Prayer

By the grace of Hashem,

19 Elul* 5715,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter in which you ask me for advice in order to achieve a better understanding of your studies. Now, this advice has already been stated by our Sages, in these terms: "If someone claims to have obtained a result without effort, do not believe him." Consequently, everything depends solely on your will. You must make an effort with all your strength.

In every domain, the help of Hashem is necessary and you will therefore adopt the ritual immersion according to the practice of Ezra*. You will give one or two francs to Tzedakah*, every weekday, before the prayer. You will also read, each day, the Tehillim*, according to their monthly division, after the morning prayer. And you will study Chassidus* with enthusiasm and ardor. You will also influence your friends in this direction and Hashem will grant you success. With my blessing to study the Torah* while being imbued with fear of Hashem, as well as to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

במענה על מכתבו בו שואל עצה להבנה יותר בלימודים. וכבר העצה אמורה ע"י חכמינו ז"ל, לא יגעת ומצאת אל תאמין, וגם להיפך יגעת ולא מצאת אל תאמין, ואם כן הדבר תלוי רק ברצונו, להתייגע בכל הכוחות שלו.

וכיון שבכל דבר נצרכים לסייעתא דשמיא, יהי' זהיר בטבילת עזרא, בנתינות לצדקה בכל יום חול קודם התפלה פראנק או שנים, באמירת תהלים בכל יום כפי שנתחלק בתהילים לימי החודש אחר תפלת הבקר, ולימוד תורת החסידות בחפץ וברצון, ולהשפיע גם על חביריו בזה. והשי"ת יצליחו.

בברכה לתלמוד תורה ביראת שמים ולכתיבה וחתימה טובה.
