To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and

devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yoel (note 1: Rav Y. Halpern, of Brooklyn),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter, in which you announce to me that you have organized a Melaveh Malkah*, the meal of David the anointed king, on the eve of the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, that of the deliverance of the Admur HaZaken*, author of the Tanya* and Decisor of the hidden part of the Torah*, author of the Shulchan Aruch* and Decisor of the revealed part of the Torah*, when: "He redeemed his soul in peace, in the battle waged against him, for many were with him" (note 2: A paraphrase of verse 19 of Psalm 55 that the Admur HaZaken recited when they came to announce his liberation), for the multitude, because he had done good to the multitude. And you will consult the Sefer Chassidim*, chapter 607, as well as the note of the Tzemach Tzedek* on Tehillim* 55:19. This was then the victory of Chassidus*, of its customs and its practices, the beginning of its wide dissemination among the children of Israel.

Without a doubt, this day is propitious for hearing words of Chassidus* during the gathering you will organize, an encouragement toward "the candle (which) is a Mitzvah* and the Torah* (which) is a light," as well as toward the luminaire of the Torah*, its profound dimension. May Hashem grant that these words emanate from the heart so that they penetrate the heart of those who hear them, that they apply to their daily existence. With my blessing for success,

נהנה אני ממה שהתחיל להיות נוכח בעת האסיפות ,ובודאי גם
להבא ינהג כזה ויכתוב אח״כ בפרטיות ,וכל המפרט יותר ה״ז משובח.
במה שכותב אודות ההתפטרות ,שזה מתפטר וזה מתפטר וכו׳ -
הנה צריך הי׳ להסביר להמתפטרים ,שאין מה להתפטר מהעבודה אצל
כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר זצוקללה״ה נבג״מ זי״ע ,שכן סוף כל סוף אפשר
לקבל את ההתפטרות ואז ח״ו נשארים בחוץ.
גם הי׳ נחוץ להבהיר ,אחת ולתמיד ,שאלו המתפטרים כלפי פנים -
מתפטרים ג״כ כלפי חוץ ,ואין להם הרשות לדבר בשם המוסדות
והענינים כאילו שהיו במצבם קודם שהתפטרו .ודי כבר לשחק ולהנהיג
פוליטיקות עם חמי כ״ק אדמו״ר . . .
והשם יתברך יזכהו ויצליחהו לומר להם זאת ,ודוקא בדרכי נועם,
ושיפעול הדבר על השומעים . . .
ובהגיענו כעת לימי החנוכה ,שהדין בהם שמוסיף והולך ומאירים
אפילו על פתח ביתו מבחוץ ,יהי׳ אור ומאור החסידות מוסיף והולך בכל
מוסדות חב״ד -שבכל מקום . . .עד שנזכה לקיום היעוד דלילה כיום
יאיר.
