By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 19 Kislev*, in which you indicate to me that you have difficulties in study. Do not be discouraged by this at all, which may Hashem forbid! Indeed, each person is obligated to study our Torah*, Torah of life, to put its Mitzvos* into practice. All Jews therefore receive the necessary strength to achieve this. If one experiences difficulties in learning or in fulfilling the Mitzvos*, it is, in the terms of the verse, because: "Hashem your Elokim* is testing you in order to know whether you love Hashem your Elokim*." If one overcomes this test, one obtains extraordinary success and, as is known, our Sages affirm that: "if you make efforts, these will be crowned with success." The intensification of your study of the Torah* and of your practice of the Mitzvos* will also strengthen the state of health of your mother, to whom Hashem will grant long days and good years, in accordance with what you indicate in your letter.

As for your birthday, which you also mention, may Hashem grant that you have a year of success in all the domains previously cited, in particular in your study of the Torah* which will be imbued with fear of Hashem. With my blessing,

במענה על מכתבו מי"ט כסלו, בו כותב אודות הקישויים בלימודו.

והנה אל יפול ח"ו ברוחו מזה, כי כל אחד ואחד נצטוה בלימוד תורתנו תורת חיים ולקיים כל מצותי', ולכל אחד ואחד מישראל ניתנו הכחות למלאות זה, והקישוים שפוגשים בלימוד או בקיום המצות הרי הוא כמה שכתוב כי מנסה ה' אלקיכם אתכם לדעת הישכם אוהבים את ה' אלקיכם, וכשעומדים בנסיון מצליחים באופן יותר מהרגיל וכבר ידוע פסק חז"ל יגעת ומצאת, והוספתו בלימוד התורה ובקיום המצות יוסיף גם כן בבריאות אמו שתליט"א אותה מזכיר במכתבו.

ובקשר עם יום הולדתו, שכותב אודותו. הנה יהי רצון שיזכה לשנת הצלחה בכל הענינים דלעיל ובפרט לתלמוד תורה ביראת שמים.
