By the grace of Hashem,

23 Iyar* 5716,

You ask me about customs permitting a better accomplishment of Mitzvos* that you have adopted for several years already, while your husband, for his part, still does not practice them. Nevertheless, if one explains to him that it is a better way of doing things, I am certain that he will not prevent you from doing so and, quite the contrary, that in his turn, he will do the same. Indeed, there is a very clear heavenly indication that this practice concerns him. One knows the saying of the Baal Shem Tov*, which we have heard many times from my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, according to which everything a Jew sees or hears delivers to him a teaching for the service of the Creator. In this case, it happens that such a custom has entered his four cubits and it is therefore certain that he can adopt it.

It is evident that in this matter, what is said of the entirety of our holy Torah* applies: "Its ways are ways of pleasantness." Moreover, "all its paths are peace," which means that, if one explains all of this without emotion, in a pleasant and peaceful manner, it is certain that the harmony in your home will be strengthened. In this way, the blessing of Hashem will likewise be strengthened, for peace is the receptacle containing the blessing of the Holy One blessed be He, as our Mishnah* rules.

... במה ששואלת אודות הידורים שרגילה בהם זה כמה וכמה שנים ושבעלה לעת עתה לא נהג בהם. ומובטחני שבאם יסבירו לו את ההידור שבדבר, הנה לא רק שלא יפריע אותה מהנהגתה זו, אלא שאדרבה גם הוא יתנהג באופן כזה, כי הרי זוהי הוראה ברורה מן השמים אשר הידור זה שייך אליו. וכנודע פתגם הבעש"ט, ששמענוהו כמה פעמים מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר כל דבר שאיש הישראלי רואה או שומע יש בזה הוראה בשבילו בהנוגע לעבודתו את בוראו. וכיון, שבאיזה אופן שיהי', נכנס הידור זה לתוך ד' אמות שלו- בודאי גם הוא ביכולתו להתנהג בו ושייך הוא אליו.

ומובן שגם על זה נאמר מה שנאמר על כללות תורתנו ק', שדרכי' דרכי נועם ואפי' כל נתיבותי' שלום. וכשיסבירו כל הנ"ל בלי התרגשות ובדרכי נועם ושלום - בודאי יתרבה השלום בביתם, ועל ידי זה גם ברכת השי"ת, כי הרי השלום הוא הכלי המחזיק ברכתו של הקב"ה, כפסק משנתנו.
