to communal needs, Rav Shlomo Chaim (note 1: Rav Sh. Ch. Kasselman. See, regarding him, letter no. 7816),

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of Monday, Rosh Chodesh* Menachem Av* and of 12 Menachem Av*, as well as the note of 16 Menachem Av*, which were all in the same envelope. You speak to me of two students who come here because they do not listen. From time to time, such proposals are formulated by the directors of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lod*. Now, it is quite evident that this is not the way to educate students. As soon as they are difficult, one sends them far away and one thus separates them from members of their family, who could exert a positive influence on them, at least partially. Indeed, you yourselves must know that in the United States, one is confronted with trials. I have written many times that the young men who came here from the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, possessed, certainly, qualities and, in fact, they did not arrive here for this same reason, but, quite the contrary, because they were the best. Despite this, to my great sorrow, I have not observed their elevation. It would therefore be necessary to explain to all the directors of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lod* that there is no reason to find another place to which one can send students who are not good. It is important to reflect on how to educate them on the spot. This is quite evident.

I received a letter from this young man, who tells me he has transferred from the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lod* to Toras Emes* (note 2: The Lubavitch Yeshivah* of Yerushalayim*). Please communicate the details to me on this subject. Has the administration of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* at Lod* given its full agreement in this matter? More generally, is there coordination and collaboration when there is a transfer of students from Toras Emes* to Lod* or the reverse? I thank you for having written to me about the visit of the emissaries (note 3: See, on this subject, letter no. 8106), to whom Hashem will grant long days and good years. No doubt you will continue to do so. The more details you give me on this matter, the better it will be. With my blessing for success,

You speak of a study supervisor. For various reasons, it must be a student from one of our Yeshivos* in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, or at most from France. You speak of small printings. I will reflect on this in the coming days. Furthermore, you are considering a trip here. One must truly ask whether this is justified, given the significant investment, financial and physical, that will result from it. Above all, the good order of the Yeshivah* will be called into question, until your return. Experience has already proven that it takes much time and an immense effort to repair the harm that is caused in this way. And one does not always succeed in doing so.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מב' ר"ח מנ"א וי"ב מנ"א והפתקא דט"ז מנ"א שהיו כולם מונחים במעטפה אחת.

ובמ"ש ע"ד שני תלמידים שיסעו לכאן כיון שאין נשמעין וכו', והצעות כגון אלו נעשות מזמן לזמן ע"י חברי הנהלת תו"ת דלוד, מובן ופשוט שלא זו הדרך לחינוך תלמידים, שכיון שישנם קישוים בחינוכם ישלחום למקום אחר (ובריחוק מקום מבני משפחתם שגם הם יכולים להשפיע עליהם לטוב עכ"פ במקצת), כי בודאי גם להם ידוע שגם בארצוה"ב ישנם נסיונות וכו'. וכבר כתבתי כ"פ, שבהאברכים שבאו מאה"ק ת"ו לכאן 0אף שהי' בהם מעלה - שלא מסיבה הנ"ל נסעו לכאן, ואדרבה מפני שהיו המובחרים, בכ"ז) לצערי הגדול לא ראיתי בהם עליות, וצריך הי' להסביר לכל חברי הנהלת תו"ת דלוד - שאין זה ענין למצוא מקום אחר לאן לשלח התלמידים שאינן מובחרים, אלא נחוצה התבוננות איך לחנכם על אתר. וד"ל.

קבלתי מכתבן מהאברך... שי', כותב שעבר מתו"ת דלוד לתורת אמת, ומטובו להודיע פרטי הדבר בזה, וכן אם נעשה זה בהסכמתה המלאה של הנהלת תו"ת דלוד.

ובכלל בהעברת תלמידים מתו"א ללוד וכן להיפך האם מתדברים מראש ביניהם ומשתפים פעולה.

ת"ח על כתבו בהנוגע לקור השלוחים שליט"א. ובטח ימשיך בכגון דא וכל המפרט ה"ז משובח.

במש"כ ע"ד משגיח וכו' - צריך למצוא זה דוקא מהת' דישיבותינו באה"ק ת"ו - (ולכל היותר - מצרפת) וכמה טעמים.

במש"כ ע"ד הוצ"ק להת' - אתבונן ימים אלו.

במש"כ ע"ד נסיעה לכאן - צע"ג אם כדאית בשביל ההוצאות (בממון, בכחות וכו') הכרוכות בזה, והעיקר - בלבולי הסדרים במשך הזמן עד שיחזור. וכבר הראה הנסיון שהקלקול הנגרם עי"ז דורש זמן רב והתאמצות רבה לתקנו, ולא תמיד מצליחים.
