To the great Rav, distinguished and pleasant Chassid* who fears Hashem,

Rav B. E. G. (note 1: Rav Binyamin Eliyahu Gorodetski. See, regarding him, letter no. 6584),

I greet you and bless you,

The purpose of the present letter resides in the following two points:

A) According to what one hears, many are those who are leaving the country in which we previously found ourselves (note 2: Russia) to go to Poland and it is said that there are several possibilities of alleviating their situation in that place or even of facilitating their transfer, for example to the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, on condition that one of the communal leaders goes there in person. It seems that several Chassidim* are among them.

B) The director of the Yiddish Institute there, Professor Berl Mark, as well as Rav Moreno, who is also on the spot, visited our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt. They indicated that, in the library of this institute, there are more than one hundred manuscripts of Chassidus* (note 3: Which remained on the spot when the Previous Rebbe left Poland in 5700 (1940). See, on this subject, letter no. 8126). According to their words, some of them were written by our masters. Nevertheless, I wonder whether they understand them well and whether they know how to distinguish these manuscripts. According to the director of the institute, it is not excluded that they would hand over these manuscripts to someone who would logically be authorized to request them. In this matter, it may perhaps be effective to give money to those who are in a position to grant the authorizations.

It would therefore be good for you to take a few days to go there, regarding these two points. If this is not possible, perhaps there is, in your entourage, someone who possesses some knowledge of the manuscripts of Chassidus*, as well as some notions of communal activity. It is then he who will go there. It has been said that this professor, directing the institute, must participate in a commission in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt. Perhaps he will even pass through France (note 4: Rav Gorodetski was then in Paris), on the way there or on the way back. Of course, one must go to Poland at a time when he is there himself, in order to be able to meet him. The federation or the editorial office of the Yiddish newspaper of Paris surely know the dates of his trip. The Joint (note 5: The American committee for aid to refugees, subsidizing the activity of Chabad*) gave eight thousand one third, without indicating the destination of this amount, and also four thousand five hundred and forty. I have duly received your letters of 9, 16, and 20 Tammuz*. Your requests have been fulfilled. With my blessing for giving good news and for success in your sacred mission,

על שתי נקודות באתי היום, והם:

א) כפי הנשמע רב מספר הבאים ממדינתנו לפנים למדינת פוילין, ואמרים שיש כמה אפשריות להקל מעמדם ומצבם שם, וגם להקל העתקתם משם לאה"ק ת"ו וכיו"ב באם מי מהעסקנים יבקר שם. וכנראה שבין הבאים ישנם כמה מאנ"ש.

ב) מנהל האינסטיטוט האידי אשר שם, ושמו פרופ' בערל מארק, (וכן הרב מורנו דשם), בביקורם באה"ק ת"ו סיפרו אשר בהספרי' של מוסד זה ישנם יותר ממאה ביכלעך חסידות. לפי דבר הנ"ל יש ביניהם גם גכתי"ק של הרביים, אבל מסופקני אם מבינים הם ויודעים להבחין בהכתבי-יד.

ולפי דברי מנהל המוסד האמור לא מופרך שיתנו הביכלעך באם תהי' דרישה מכזה שיהי' מקום בשכל לתת את הביכלעך לו. ואפשר שבכגון דא גם בצע כסף להמתווכים בהשגת הרשיון הדרוש לזה יוכל להועיל.

ואפשר כדאי הדבר שכת"ר יקח לו איזה ימים לבקר שם אודות שתי הנקודות האמורות, ואם אי-אפשרי הדבר, אולי נמצא מי שהא אחר בסביבתו שיש לו על כל פנים ידיעה קצת בביכלעך דא"ח וכן הבנה קצת עכ"פ בעסקנות ציבורית, שהוא יבקר שם.

היתה שמועה שהפרופ' הנ"ל שהוא מנהל המוסד הנ"ל צריך להשתתף באיזה ועידה באה"ק ת"ו ואפשר שיעבור ג"כ דרך צרפת בהליכתו או בחזירתו. וכמובן שהנסיעה לפוילין צריכה להיות בזמן שהנ"ל שם שיוכלו להפגש אתו. ובטח בהפדרצי' או במערכת העתון האידי שבפריז יודעים על דבר זמני נסיעתו של הנ"ל.

מהדז' נתקבל ח' ושליש א' בלי הוראה לאיזה ענין שייכים. ועוד ד' תק"מ ב"א.
