You ask me the following question, in the name of many people: is the fund of three hundred and eighty-five (note 2: The Tzedakah* given for each day of the year, 5717 having counted three hundred and eighty-five days) that of Kupas Rabbeinu* (note 3: "The fund of our master," the Tzedakah* given at the initiative of the Rebbe)? It is not. Indeed, Kupas Rabbeinu* was created many years ago and already existed at the time of the Rebbe Rashab*, father of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. It is not the same, however, for the Tzedakah* of the year (note 4: Which was introduced by the Rebbe himself).

Your second question is the following: must one who tithes for Tzedakah* also participate in the Tzedakah* of the year? I do not understand what you mean, for it is clear that this Tzedakah* of the year is itself a form of Tzedakah*. It can therefore be taken from this tithe. For all that, even for one who participates in other Tzedakah* causes, that of the year retains its importance (note 5: And one must therefore participate in it), as the talk (note 6: Of Shabbos* Parshas Bereishis* 5714 (1953), published in Likkutei Sichos*, volume 2, at page 652. See, on this subject, letter no. 8059) explained when this practice was disseminated.

... ובשאלתו בשם רבים אם קרן שפ"ה הוא דקופת רבנו, אין זה כן, והרי קופת רבנו נתיסדה זה מכו"כ שנים, ועוד בזמן כ"ק אדמור, מוהרש"ב אביו של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, משא"כ קרן השנה.

בשאלתו השניה - התורם מעשר לצדקה האם צריך לנדב גם לקרן השנה, הנה אין מובנת שאלתו, כי מובן שקרן השנה ג"כ קופת צדקה היא ובמילא יש לקחת ע"ז ממעשר כספים אבל לאידך גיסא, הנותן צדקה לענינים אחרים של צדקה הנה קרן השנה ענין בפ"ע הוא וכמובאר בהשיחה בעת פרסום ענין זה.
