I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of the conclusion of Shabbos*, in which you inform me of the good behavior you will adopt in the future, regarding what is known (note 1: Regarding the abuse of alcohol during a Chassidic* gathering. See, on this subject, letter no. 5861, addressed to the same person). It is surely needless to encourage you to put this good resolution into practice. First of all, such is the request and the requirement of our holy masters in this matter. It is, furthermore, one of the means, one of the ways of disseminating the wellsprings (note 2: Of Chassidus*) to the outside. The surroundings and the persons who constitute them must observe the conduct of the Chassidim* and of those who study Chassidus*, giving the good example of what a positive attitude must be, finding favor in the eyes of Hashem and of men.

Sometimes, it may seem difficult to change one's personality and adopt good conduct. This is the reason I address these few lines to you, intended to encourage you, once again and yet again. At first, it will seem arduous to change yourself, but it is certain (note 3: The Rebbe underlines this word) that in a short time, you will become accustomed to it and you will be happy to have adopted this conduct. May Hashem grant you success in this and in all that concerns you, as well as your wife. I send you my blessing for giving good news of the positive Chassidic* gathering that will be organized for the luminous day of 19 Kislev*, Rosh Hashanah* of the study of Chassidus* and of Chassidic* ways. With my blessing for also giving good news of all that has just been said,

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו ממוצש"ק, בו כותב אודות הנהגתו הטובה מכאן ולהבא בענין הידוע.

ובודאי למותר לעודדו בהחלטתו הטובה בזה, שמלבד שזוהי בקשת ודרישת רבותינו נשיאנו הק' להנהגה האמורה, הנה זהו גם כן אחד מהאופנים והדרכים להפצת המעינות חוצה, על ידי שתראה כל הסביבה ואנשי' הנהגות אנ"ש ולומדי תורת החסידות, אשר דוגמא חי' הם להנהגה טובה מוצאת חן בעיני אלקים ואדם.

וכיון שלפעמים נדמה שקשה השינוי להנהגה טובה, באתי בשורותי אלה לעודדו עוד הפעם ועוד הפעם. ואפילו אם בעת הראשונה ידמה לו שקשה השינוי - בודאי במשך זמן קצר יתרגל ויגל וישמח על אשר נוהג דוקא באופן האמור.

והשי"ת יצליחו בזה ובכל עניניהם - אותו וזוגתו תחי'.
