By the grace of Hashem,

14 Shevat* 5719,

Brooklyn,

To the organization of the students of the evening Yeshivah*,

in the holy city of Yerushalayim*, may it be

restored and rebuilt, may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of 10 Shevat*, date of the Hilula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, leader of Israel. You inform me therein of your good decisions, those of intensifying your study of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life, of its revealed part and of Chassidus*. May Hashem grant that these decisions be followed by effect, in conformity with the affirmation of the Mishnah* according to which: "one Mitzvah* draws another." You will therefore multiply them broadly.

I have good hope that, in this matter, there will also be fulfilled the principle according to which: "competition among the scholars develops wisdom." I mean that this attitude will awaken the desire to do better, in the domain of holiness, in your friends, your comrades, and your acquaintances, according to the teaching of our Sages previously cited. The verse Mishlei* 23:17 says that: "One shall envy only the fear of Hashem, all day long." The Orchos Tzaddikim* explains this at length, as does the Or HaTorah*, of the Tzemach Tzedek*, at Parshas Vayeitzei*, from page 218b. You yourselves will make an addition to all of this and each of you will be a Chassid*, fearing Hashem and erudite. With my blessing for giving good news of what has just been said,

ותוכנו החלטות טובות אודות הוספה בלימוד תורתנו הק', תורת חיים, תורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות.

ויהי רצון אשר יקיימו החלטות אלו בפועל, ומתאים לדבר משנה, מצוה גוררת מצוה, יוסיפו עליהם כהנה וכהנה.

ותקותי חזקה אשר יקויים גם בזה, קנאת סופרים תרבה חכמה, כוונתי אשר ההנהגה האמורה, בחביריהם ידידיהם ומכיריהם שי', תעורר בהם קנאה דקדושה.

וכמאמר רז"ל האמור. וכמ"ש אל יקנא וגו' כי אם ביראת ה' כל היום (משלי כ"ג י"ז), וכמבואר בארוכה בזה בספר ארחות צדיקים ובאור התורה לכ"ק [אדמו"ר] הצמח צדק (ויצא רי"ח ע"ב ואילך). ויוסיפו גם הם בכל האמור, כל אחד ואחד מהם [להיות] חסיד ירא שמים ולמדן.
