To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to

communal needs, Rav Yehoshua Shneur Zalman (note 1: Rav Y. S. Z. Serebranski, of Melbourne, Australia. See, regarding him, letters no. 6148, 8195, 8198, and 8216),

I greet you and bless you,

You have informed me that your daughter, Mrs. Nechama, has had a daughter, with Mazal Tov*, and that she has been named Maryacha Miriam Bedana, may Hashem grant her long days and good years. Here is therefore my response. May Hashem grant that her parents educate her to Torah*, to the wedding canopy, and to good deeds, with breadth. May they derive from her and from all their children much Chassidic* satisfaction. With my blessing of Mazal Tov*, as well as for a kosher and joyous festival of Pesach*,

At a propitious moment, your names will be mentioned near the holy tomb (note 2: Of the previous Rebbe) so that you may have considerable success in all the domains you mention. Furthermore, you mention a study of the entire day (note 3: A study of the Torah*, excluding secular subjects, within the Yeshivah*. See, on this subject, letter no. 8195). The manner and the moment of intervening in this matter must be determined as a function of the conditions of the place and the persons. In any case, you will be able to begin to do so only when you are in possession of a detailed and concrete program. It is difficult to explain the importance of all this in the framework of a letter. And one knows the determination with which my father-in-law, the Rebbe, acted shortly after his arrival in the United States. He then pronounced the most acerbic words against those who directed the rectors of Yeshivos* and the communal leaders animated by the fear of Hashem, in this country, with the aim of persuading them to add a supplementary hour of sacred studies. How much more is this the case here.
