To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of multiple

accomplishments and good conduct,

Rav Alexander Z. (note 1: Rav Alexander Zusha Bunin. See, regarding him, letter no. 6668),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of the conclusion of the festival of Pesach*, in which you communicate to me the proposal formulated by Mr. Mordechai Epstein (note 2: See, on this subject, letters no. 6667 and 6668, which, by error, mentioned the name of Katz in place of Epstein. See also the letter of the secretariat below). I have addressed myself, on this subject, to several Chassidim* of the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt. If they have not yet taken contact with you, on this point, and through your intermediary with Mr. Epstein, they will do so soon. May Hashem grant that this be arranged for the best, down to the smallest detail, the profound purpose being, according to the expression of our Sages, that the Name of Hashem be sanctified through you and through them.

You tell me nothing of your state of health and I therefore have good hope that you are feeling better, that you will give me, very soon, good news on this subject. You will also tell me that, during the "time of our freedom" (note 3: The festival of Pesach*) that has just concluded, you participated in a Chassidic* gathering, assuring the elevation of the divine soul and allowing it to convince the animal soul, as well as the body, and, more generally, the portion of the world that one is entrusted with. For this is indeed the profound objective of all things. And you will retain its trace (note 4: Of the festival of Pesach*) during the days, weeks, months that follow. With my blessing to give good news of all of this,

You will find enclosed a copy of the response addressed to Mr. Alexander Z. Bunin, concerning the desire of Mr. Mordechai Epstein to hand over to Chabad* a piece of land belonging to him, in order to build thereon a good school, in which one would learn not only our holy Torah* but also a trade. It would be good, as a first step, that you contact Mr. Bunin as quickly as possible, then this man, after having taken cognizance of all the details of this proposal from the former.

To determine what will be built on this land, we await your suggestions. More precisely, what sort of school should it be? It seems that all of this is urgent, for this man is impatient. Moreover, it appears that someone wishes to discourage him from giving this land. Here again, you will learn the details from Mr. Bunin. I await your acknowledgment of receipt of the present letter and you will tell me, as quickly as possible, what the situation is.

במענה למכתבו ממוצאי חה"פ, בו כותב בענין הצעת מר מרדכי שי' עפשטיין,

ופניתי לאחדים מאנ"ש אשר באה"ק ת"ו, אשר אם עדיין לא באו בקישור אתו ע"ד זה ועל ידו עם מר עפשטיין שי', בטח יעשו זה בקרוב.

ויהי רצון שיסתדר הענין בכי טוב בכל הפרטים לכוונה הפנימית בסגנון חז"ל אשר מני' ומנייהו יתקלס שם עילאה.

כיון שאינו מזכיר בהנוגע לבריאותו הוא, תקותי שהוטב ובעתיד הכי קרוב יבשר טוב בזה וכן מהשתתפותו במשך זמן חירותנו דאזלינן מני' בהתועדות חסידותית, התועדות המרוממת את הנפש האלקית ובאופן שיפעול על הנה"ב וגם הגוף וחלקו בעולם בכלל, שהרי זוהי' כוונה הפנימית בכל הענין להמשיך השפעה ממנה בהימים השבועות וחדשים הבאים אחרי'.

מצו"פ העתק מענה למר אלכסנדר ז. שי' בונין בהנוגע אשר מר מרדכי שי' עפשטיין רוצה למסור לחב"ד שטח מקרקע שלו, בכדי להקים עליו מוסד חינוך מתאים, ושיהי' בו לא רק לימוד תוה"ק, אלא גם לימוד איזה מקצוע.

ומהנכון אשר בהקדם יבואו בקשר עם מר בונין שי' בתחלה, ולאחרי כן גם עם הנ"ל, לאחרי שיוודעו אצל מר בונין שי' כל הפרטים בזה.

בשאלה מה יוקם על השטח, מחכים להצעות מאתם, ז.א. בדיוק יותר איזה טפוס של מוסד וכיו"ב. וכנראה הענין מהיר, כיון שהנ"ל חסר סבלנות. ועוד יותר - שמי שהוא כנראה רוצה להניע אותו ממסירת השטח וכו'. וגם בזה ידעו הפרטים ממר בונין שי'.
