To the leaders of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lod*,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

A) We have duly received your letters of 25, 28, and 30 MarCheshvan*, with what was enclosed therein. The report refers to the communal activities conducted by the students. If these are indeed in conformity with what is described in this report, if they are carried out during the study times, you will surely make me a proposal in order to reduce them, in the fitting manner, so that it will no longer be a question of passing over the study times, quite the contrary. Nevertheless, you are surely aware that these activities, if the leadership of the Yeshivah* uses them in the fitting domain and manner, will attract new students to the Chabad* schools, in general, and to the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, in particular (note 1: Which means that they cannot be suppressed, but only reduced). In the end, each person must still understand that something must be done in this matter. This is quite evident.

B) You will understand my surprise mixed with pain in observing that you manifest no interest in the writing of a compilation of commentaries composed by the students (note 2: See, on this subject, letters no. 6162, 8208, and 8210). Now, it has been a long time since I wrote to you on this subject. It would be good for a fascicle to be published for 19 Kislev*, but it seems that there is no longer sufficient time for this. It will therefore appear for 24 Teves* (note 3: Date of the Hilula* of the Admur HaZaken*) or, at the latest, for 10 Shevat* (note 4: Date of the Hilula* of the previous Rebbe). For nothing resists the will. With my blessing to give good news of all of this, as well as in all domains, both communal and personal,

I greet you and bless you,

We send you, in a specific package, a compilation of commentaries by students that was published on the eve of Shavuos* (note 6: See, on this subject, letter no. 6966). We hope to publish others subsequently. This compilation contains seven teachings of the revealed part of the Torah* and seven of Chassidus*, which were developed by fourteen students. Since the month of Kislev* this year, two groups have been formed, at the suggestion of the Rebbe Shlita*, one for the revealed teaching of the Torah*, the other for Chassidus*. Beyond their studies at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* Lubavitch, these students invested themselves even more profoundly, as it is said: "And you shall spread." You have surely been told other details about the formation of these groups, the manner in which they study, the self-sacrifice and ardor of the students, as well as their success, with the help of Hashem.

We therefore propose to you to constitute, in your turn, two similar groups, among the students of your Yeshivah*. Of course, the students chosen for this purpose must possess the necessary capacities, not act under constraint, but only of their own free will. In this case, the number seven is not imperative. After having constituted these groups, you will surely adopt the same organization as here, according to which the students write an explanation of the revealed part of the Torah* or one of Chassidus*, each according to his group. Subsequently, these explanations are drafted so that they can be published in a specific compilation or within a more general work. You will kindly tell me what has been done in this matter. מאשרים קבלת מכתביהם מכ"ה, כ"ח ל' מ"ח והמצורף אליהם. ובמ"ש בהפ"כ שעסקנות הצבור של התלמידים שי' וכו'- הנה אם באמת זהו באופן ככתוב בהפ"כ אשר שוברים הם הסדר וכו', בטח יכתבו הצעה איך לצמצם פעולות האמורות המתאים בכדי לשלול ענין השבירה, ואדרבה. ובטח מכירים אשר עסקנות האמורה, אם רק הנהלת הישיבה תנצל אותה בשטח ואופן המתאים - תמשיך תלמידים למוסדות חינוך חב"ד בכלל ולתו"ת בפרט, שהרי סו"ס בטח כאו"א מכיר, שיש לדאוג ולעשות מה בשטח זה, וד"ל.

ב) מובנת הפליאה מהולה בצער, על העדר ההתענינות בעריכת קובץ פלפול התלמידים, אף שזה כמה שכתבתי עד"ז ומהנכון הי' שיופיע לאור עכ"פ לי"ט כסלו, ובכיון שכנראה עבר הזמן, הנה יופיע ליום כ"ד טבת, ועכ"פ לא יאוחר מיום יו"ד שבט הבע"ל. ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון...

בחבילה מיוחדת שולחים אנו לכם את קובץ פלפול התלמידים אשר יצא לאור בערב חה"ש. ומקוים שבמשך הזמן יופיעו עוד קבצים כהנ"ל,.

הקובץ הזה כול בתוכו שבעה שיעורים בנגלה ושבעה בחסידות, אשר נאמרו ע"י י"ד תלמידים שיחיו, אשר התחל מחודש כסלו דשנה זו סודרו מהם - עפ"י הצעת כ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א - ב' קבוצות, בנגלה ובחסידות, אשר נוסף על הלימודים בסדרי הישיבה תת"ל מסרו עצמם ללימוד ביתר שאת באופן של ופרצת.

פרטים יותר מהתייסדות קבוצות הנ"ל, אופן לימודם, התמסרות ושקידם התלמידים שיחיו והצלחתם בעזהשי"ת, בטח ידוע לכם ע"פ השמועה וכו'.

ובזה הננו מציעים לכם לסדר ב' קבוצות כנ"ל גם מבין תלמידי ישיבתכם. מובן שהתלמידים הנבחרים לזה צריכים להיות מתוך אלה שראוים לאיצטלא זו, ושעושים זה לא מתוך איזה הכרח שהוא אלא ברצונם הטוב.

המספר שבעה הוא לאו דוקא.

ולאחר שתסדרו את הקבוצות הנ"ל בטח תשימו לב גם לזה הנהוג כאן, שיאמרו התלמידים ענין בנגלה וענין בחסידות, כל אחד לפי קבוצתו, ואחרי זה יביאו אותו על הכתב ובאופן כזה שיוכלו להביא פלפולי תלמידים לאור הדפוס, אם בתור קובץ מיוחד או כחלק מהקובץ הכללי.
