Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8236 — Faith & Bitachon

(8 MarCheshvan* 5722)

After a long interruption, I have duly received your letter of 6 MarCheshvan*, in which you describe your activities, which allow you to earn your livelihood. You affirm to me that you have difficulty finding a job that suits you. You will understand that I am surprised by this, for our Sages say (note 1: See tractate Taanis* 8b) that: "He Who gives life will also grant subsistence" and the Kuntres UMaayon (note 2: Of the Rebbe Rashab*, from page 108) explains that it is necessary, for this, to act, to work, as it is said: "Hashem your Elokim* will bless you in all that you do (note 3: Concrete action is therefore necessary. The words "do" and "effort" are underlined by the Rebbe)." There therefore necessarily exists a job that suits you, but, as with everything linked to this material world, effort and toil are sometimes necessary. Such is the way of the world and it is therefore clear that there is no reason to be affected by this. It has already been specified that: "man is born for effort" and the verse emphasizes that: "if you eat by the effort (note 3) of your hands, you will be happy."

I hope that upon reception of the present letter, you will take counsel with your friends, the Chassidim* of your place, before whom you will set forth, in detail, what you have done until now. You will thus be in a position to determine whether you have effectively consented to the necessary effort, without it having been crowned with success, or whether this has not yet been the case. And, it has already been said that: "salvation emanates from the numerous counselors."

לאחרי הפסק ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מו' מ"ח, בו כותב אודות הענינים בהם עסק בקשר לפרנסתו, וכותב שקשה למצוא עבודה מתאימה.

ומובן הפלא בדבר, שהרי אמרו חז"ל מאן דיהיב חיי יהיב מזוני, ומבואר בקונטרס ומעין, שצריך להיות זה על ידי עבודה ומלאכה כמה שכתוב וברכך ה' אלקיך בכל אשר תעשה , שמזה מובן שבודאי ישנה עבודה מתאימה לפניו, אלא שככל עניני עולם הזה אולי קשור זה ביגיעה והשתדלות, וכיון שכן הוא מנהגו של עולם מובן שאין להתרשם מזה, וכבר נאמר אדם לעמל יולד, ואומר הכתוב יגיע כפיך כי תאכל אשריך וגו'

תקותי שתיכף לקבלת מכתבי זה יתייעץ עם ידידיו שי' אנ"ש אשר במקום, לפניהם יפרט עניניו עד עתה, והאם התעסק בהם בהשתדלות הדרושה אלא שלא מצא, או שעדיין לא השתדל כדבעי, וכבר נאמר ותשועה ברוב יועץ.
