I respond to your letter of 10/12. It is surprising that the essential is missing from it. I am alluding to the teaching of our Sages relative to the purpose of the creation of man, which is the service of his Creator, in conformity with the conclusion of tractate Kiddushin*, through the study of the Torah* and the practice of its Mitzvos*, on a daily basis. Now, you begin your letter by indicating to me that you present yourself, but you tell me nothing, however, about the time you devote to the study of our Torah*, Torah* of life, of your practice of its Mitzvos*, of which it is said: "One shall live by them." No doubt you will complete all of this at the next opportunity.

I hope that it is unnecessary to add that one of these Mitzvos* is: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," which means that you must exert a positive influence on your friends and on your surroundings, which, in turn, will adopt the same behavior. For, nothing can withstand the will.

במענה למכתבו מיום 12/10,

לפלא שחסר בו העיקר, כוונתי מתאים להוראת חז"ל בתכלית בריאת האדם, שהוא לשמש את קונו (מסכת קדושין בסופה) ע"י לימוד התורה וקיום מצותיו, בחיי היום יומים. ואף שמתחיל במכתבו שמציג את עצמו, אינו כותב כלום מקביעות עתים שלו בתורתנו תורת חיים ובהנוגע לקיום מצותי' עליהן נאמר וחי בהם, ובטח ימלא בהזדמנות הבאה.

ותקותי שלמותר להוסיף, אשר אחת המצות היא ואהבת לרעך כמוך, ז. א. להשפיע גם על חבריו שי' וסביבתו שגם הם יתנהגו באופן האמור, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.
