By the grace of Hashem,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Avraham (note 1: Rav A. Mugrabi, of Yerushalayim*),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 5 Kislev*, in which you briefly describe your life. You conclude by telling me that a position as rabbi has been proposed to you in Guatemala. More importantly, you will devote yourself, in that place, to education based on sacred values. You have already signified your agreement to this proposal, you have the tickets for the journey in your possession, an apartment has been prepared for you and you ask me whether you should indeed go there. Now, according to the decision (note 2: In tractate Sanhedrin* 37a) of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life, "whoever preserves a Jewish soul is considered as if he had sustained the entire world" (note 3: In this case through this educational activity). It is so in this world and it is quite clear that this is also the case in the other world (note 4: What is true of physical rescue is, a fortiori, true of moral rescue). Another point, in this regard, concerns "the poor of your city" (note 5: It is said, indeed, that: "the poor of your city have priority over others"), since you are personally originally from South America and you know the language of this country.

This proposal is therefore judicious. It is good, of a true good, as our Sages explain (note 6: In tractate Kiddushin* 40a): "good for the heavens and good for the creatures," of a good that bears fruit. Consequently, you will go to this country, you will work there with drive and ardor to strengthen traditional Judaism and to disseminate it. The merit of that which is public therein will come to your aid. For, there are no words to explain how important all of this is. May Hashem grant that you act thus, in joy and enthusiasm. It is in this way that you will know success.

You surely know the account of the "day of good tidings," that of the deliverance of 19 Kislev*, liberation of the profound part of the Torah* that has been revealed by Chassidus*. This event emphasizes that the love of one's fellow, the love of the Torah* and the love of Hashem form but a single entity (note 7: See, on this subject, letter no. 8229). And, this observation renders what has just been said even more agreeable. With my blessing to give good news,

במענה למכתבו מה' כסלו, בו כותב ראשי פרקים מדברי ימי חייו ומסיים בהצעה שקבל אודות רבנות במדינת גוואטאמאלע, ומה שנוגע עוד יותר פעולות בחינוך על טהרת הקדש, וכבר הסכים על זה ויש כרטיסים לנסיעה והכינו דירה עבורו, ושואל העם יסע,

וע"פ פסק דין תורתנו הק' תורת חיים, כל המקיים נפש אחת מישראל כאילו קיים עולם מלא, שזהו בנוגע להקיום לחיי העולם הזה ופשיטא שגם לקיום חיי עולם הבא כן הוא, ועוד נקודה בהאמור שהנ"ל הוא בגדר עניי עירך, כיון שמוצאו ממדינת דרום אמריקה יודע השפה וכו',

נכונה ההצעה וטובה בטוב האמיתי, כפירוש חז"ל טוב לשמים וטוב לבריות וטוב העושה פירות, שיסע למדינה האמורה ויעבוד שם במסירה ונתינה בהחזקת היהדות המסורתית והפצתה וזכות הרבים מסייעתו וגודל ערך הענין אין די באר.

ויהי רצון שיעשה בהאמור מתוך שמחה טוב לבב ויצליח.

בטח יודע מפרשת יום הבשורה יום הגאולה י"ט כסלו גאולת פנימיות התורה שנתגלתה בתורת החסידות, המדגישה איך שאהבת ישראל אהבת התורה ואהבת השם, חד הוא, שזה עוד מוסיף נועם בהנ"ל.
