Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8264 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 22 · Letter 46

By the grace of Hashem,

18 Kislev* 5722,

Brooklyn,

I bless you and greet you,

I respond to your letter (note 1: This letter is addressed to a woman) of 11 Kislev*, in which you set forth the difficulties you encounter in the place where you currently find yourself. You therefore envisage leaving it. For various reasons, I did not wish to mention what follows. Nevertheless, you yourself recall it in your letter and I therefore have no choice. I must express my position, which is, in the present case, the following.

Even (note 2: The Rebbe underlines the words: "even" and "numerous") if it were good to leave the place where you currently find yourself, there would be no reason to settle in the city you cite. For the purpose of strengthening the peace of your home, from every point of view, it is necessary that you live near your husband and your child, rather than near your parents, in the city where they reside. As one can concretely verify, in the majority of cases, such proximity is not desirable and, for various reasons, which do not depend on you, this is even more clearly the case in your situation.

On the question properly asked, concerning your difficulties in the place where you currently find yourself, you must consider that this school is still relatively new. It is therefore not surprising that your activity is difficult. Of course, the comfort of those in the school is affected, but there is no doubt that, when you and your husband consider this school and your work within it, not as an artificial and contrived situation, not as what is for the good of the school or for other reasons still, but rather as your own good, it will become possible, more quickly and more easily, to consult with those who are linked to this school. It will then be easier to distribute the responsibilities.

Another point, which is essential: if you observe the school in the manner just described, it is certain that this will bring (note 3: To this school, apparently belonging to the Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch network in the Holy Land) the means to develop, materially and spiritually. And, such possibilities would perhaps not present themselves in another place. One of the reasons for this is the one we have mentioned. This school is still new in the city. Now, the latter presents numerous (note 2) possibilities, in different domains. With the appropriate energy, joy and enthusiasm, you will know immense success, both material and spiritual, for the good of each of you in particular and for the good of the community.

What has just been said is based on similar cases that have presented themselves in other cities. And, such was indeed the result. Thus, perhaps, from your point of view or from that of others, all of this is not clear, because you do not have knowledge of the other situations, or only in a superficial manner. Yet there is indeed an incontestable fact here. And, all that has just been said is based on logic, on natural considerations. For all that, it is no less important, perhaps even more so, to meditate on the truth, in this case on the fact of working in a school of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, leader of Israel, bearing his name. If you accomplish this work with constancy, ardor and enthusiasm, you will strengthen the intercession, to obtain the immense mercy of Hashem, of the one who is in the holy tomb near which your name will be cited, so that you obtain an increased blessing and success in all your concerns, both communal and personal. I address to you my blessing to give good news of all of this. We are, furthermore, on the eve of 19 Kislev* (note 4: Festival of the liberation of the Admur HaZaken* from the tsarist prisons) and you will therefore give me good news of this date, then of Chanukah*, which are approaching.
