By the grace of Hashem,

To the young men participating in the studies of the revealed part

of the Torah* and of Chassidus*, in order to achieve a specific

objective, the strengthening of friendship and proximity

among you, in the city of Montreal (note 1: This letter was addressed to several persons. See, on this subject, letter no. 8287),

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter from the eve of the festival of liberation of 19 Kislev*, with the list of your names. At a propitious moment, these will be mentioned near the holy tomb of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, so that the wish of your heart be fulfilled, in this matter, in conformity with the content of your letter. May Hashem grant that all of this be accomplished by advancing, by adding and by illuminating, which is also one of the teachings of the festival of Chanukah*, which is approaching, since, during it, one adds light each day.

One can, furthermore, add the following allusion. The source of the light, as well as that of its increase, is oil, which alludes to the "secrets of the secrets of the Torah*." The study of Chassidus* makes it possible to reveal them, to understand them and to put this perception into practice, in all domains. According to the terms of the verse, "in all your ways, know Him" and this knowledge is indeed the objective to be attained. It is also said: "Know the Elokim* of your father." In this way, one obtains a "whole heart," through this "elevated Mitzvah*" (note 2: See the errata of the Tanya*), which is also "important" and even the highest, according to the terms of the Kuntres Acharon* (note 3: Of the Tanya*), page 156b. With my blessing to give good news of all of this, as well as for a Chanukah* in conformity with what has just been said,

ויש עוד להוסיף רמז בזה, אשר מקור האור וההוספה שלו הוא משמן, רזי דרזין דאורייתא, שמלימוד תורת החסידות המגלה גם רזי דרזין ועד להבנה והשגה בפועל יחדיר האמור בכל הענינים, ובלשון הכתוב בכל דרכיך (ועד שיבואו להמטרה) דעהו, דע את אלקי אביך כו' ומביאה ללב שלם מצוה רמה (כן צ"ל) ונשאה, ואדרבה עולה על כולנה (עיין קונטרס אחרון קנ"ו ב').
