By the grace of Hashem,

I bless you and greet you,

I respond to your letter of 15 Kislev*. At a propitious moment, those you cite will be mentioned near the holy tomb of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, in conformity with what you write to me. Since you have transmitted this request to me, may Hashem grant that you also give me good news of it. Furthermore, we are approaching the days of Chanukah*, during which we add a candle and light, from day to day. May it therefore be so in what concerns you. With my blessing to give this good news,

You speak to me of a pain in the ears. According to the description you give of it, it is possible that it originates from an eczema of the ear and a cavity that would have been pierced therein as a result. If this is indeed the case, certain physicians will know how to treat this condition with an ointment and by keeping the ear dry. Of course, the final decision, in this matter, rests with the treating physician.
