By the grace of Hashem,

To all the participants at the gathering to support the institutions of Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch, Machne Israel, and Kehos Publication Society — founded by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, that he presides over and directs [3],

May Hashem grant them long life,

I greet you abundantly and bless you greatly,

Among the most important institutions founded by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, are Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch, Machne Israel, and Kehos — which were very dear to him. He devoted himself particularly to them and attended to every detail of their activity, which was carried out in every respect according to his directives and with his consent.

In accordance with the instructions given by my father-in-law, the Rebbe, during the weeks preceding his histalkus*, the activities of these institutions have developed in recent months. The range of activities has broadened, and a new branch has been introduced — that of the educational institutions in North Africa, which are flourishing. And one can see that this success is the work of my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

The activities of these institutions — in the domain of education, of strengthening Yiddishkeit, of relief — extend to all groups of the Jewish people in all the countries of the world. They therefore involve significant expenses.

Until now, these institutions have never organized public fundraising campaigns, because they received their budget from my father-in-law, the Rebbe.

The histalkus of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, therefore removed the essential source of their funding. For some ten months now, a great danger has hovered over them due to the lack of financial means.

The moment requires of each and every one of us an immediate awareness of the obligation and great merit incumbent upon us. And one must, above all, act concretely to assume this responsibility.

One must therefore act oneself, and lead others to do so, to strengthen these institutions to which my father-in-law, the Rebbe, attached so much value and reserved the best of his strengths.

Indeed, "the quality of the potter appears in the pottery" [4] — all the more so since he has not withdrawn his hand from them, chas veshalom. He continues to direct them as he did before.

In one of his sichos, my father-in-law, the Rebbe, remarked that very often, when speaking of what one particularly loved, one expressed oneself precisely in Yiddish. He cited as proof what the Alter Rebbe writes in Iggeres HaKodesh, in the section introduced by "You shall reproach your fellow": "Gevald, gevald! Mein G-tt, mein G-tt!"

A man must speak in the terms of his master: Gevald, gevald, what are we waiting for? How will we manage to justify ourselves? What will we answer when my father-in-law, the Rebbe, asks us: "Is this your participation in my action and in the work for which I gave of myself?"

You are gathering on the eve of the Rosh Hashanah of Chassidus. May Hashem therefore cause your good resolutions, and your zealous actions to put them into practice — those you will make immediately and those you will carry out very soon — to bring Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch, Machne Israel, and Kehos the means to fulfill the mission my father-in-law, the Rebbe, assigned them. Thus we will not be ashamed, and with full justification we will be able to say: "We have done what You expected of us."

Obviously this letter, written on the occasion of the gathering, is also addressed to those who do not participate in it, but who are nevertheless attached to my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and know the value of his work and deeds — "the intervention of the Tzaddik to enliven every being bound to him with his whole soul, with a great love, an eternal love that will never disappear" [5].

Blessing you and myself for immense success in our common work, I conclude with the words of our master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe: "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year, in the study of Chassidus and in its ways."

בין המוסדות הכי חשובים שייסד הוד כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ, היו המרכז לעניני חנוך, מחנה ישראל וקהת יקרים לו במאד, וחיבה יתירה נודעת להם ממנו, בהתענינו בכל פרט ופרט מפעולותיהם וכל דבר וענין נעשה על פי הוראתו והסכמתו.

וגם בחדשים האחרונים הנה, בהתאם להוראות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ בהשבועות שלפני הסתלקותו, נתרחב חוג עבודת המוסדות האלו, והותחלה גם כן עבודה חדשה, היא עבודת החינוך באפריקא הצפונית, ההולכת וגדלה, ורואים בה במוחש איך ההצלחה שרוי' במעשי ידי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ.

והנה למרות שחוג פעולת מוסדות הנ"ל על שדה החינוך, חיזוק היהדות, הצלה וכו' מקיף את כל שדרות אחב"י בכל מדינות תבל, אשר מובן שכ"ז קשור בהוצאות גדולות, לא סידרו עד עתה המוסדות הנ"ל מגביות פומביות, וכל עיקר יסוד הספקתם קיבלו על ידי הוד כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ.

העיקרית של המוסדות הנ"ל וזה יותר מעשרה חדשים אשר סכנה גדולה מרחפת עליהם מפני חסרון האמצעים הכספיים.

השעה דורשת בתכיפות מאת כל אחד ואחת מאתנו כולנו לזכור על דבר החוב והזכות הקדוש המוטל עלינו, והעיקר לעשות בפועל במילוי חובתנו זו, והוא להיות מן העושים והמעשים כלל יכלתנו להחזקת מוסדות אלו, אשר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ טיפחם ריבם והשקיע בהם מיטב כוחותיו, ות"ל ניכר כח האומן בכלי . ובפרט שאין ידי האומן מסולקות, ח"ו, מכלי זה. ומה עד כאן עומד ומנהל אף להלן עומד ומנהל .

אמר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ באחת משיחותיו, אשר לפעמים, כאשר דברו בענין פנימי ולבבי ביותר, השתמשו דוקא בלשון אידית. והביא לדוגמא מה שכותב אדמו"ר הזקן באגה"ק הוכח תוכיח את עמיתך: גוואלד גוואלד.

חייב אדם לומר בלשון רבו: גוואלד גוואלד, עד מתי אנו מחשים? במה נצטדק, ומה נענה על שאלת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ: הזאת היא השתתפותכם במעשי ידי ובעבודתי אשר עלי' מסרתי את נפשי?

מתאספים אתם בערב ראש-השנה-לחסידות, ויהי רצון אשר החלטותיכם הטובות ופעולותיכם הנמרצות במילוי ההחלטות - הפעולות על אתר והפעולות בעתיד הכי קרוב - יתנו לה"מרכז לעניני חינוך, מחנה ישראל, וקהת" את האפשריות למלאות תפקידם אשר התווה להם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ. ולא נבוש ולא נכלם, כי בצדק נוכל לומר: עשינו מה שדרשת מאתנו.
