I learned with pleasure, through this Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, that you endeavored to gather a sum of one thousand dollars for an important cause, the sending of several packages to our brethren, in certain countries, where Jewish life is particularly difficult (note 1: On the other side of the Iron Curtain). The Rav has surely explained all of this to you. The Mitzvah* of Tzedakah* is always fundamental, as our Sages (note 2: In tractate Bava Basra* 9a), of holy memory, emphasize, defining it as the equivalent of many other Mitzvos*. And, one can deduce from this the value of that in which you have taken part, which has the purpose of saving lives, not only physically, but also morally.

We have just lived through the luminous festival of Chanukah* by lighting each evening an increased number of candles. May Hashem therefore grant that the merit of the immense Tzedakah* you have just realized protect you, that it bring clarity, joy and satisfaction to your home and to your family, in an ever-increasing manner. In this way, you will be able to continue giving Tzedakah* and accomplishing good deeds, ever more numerous, with a joyous heart and in good health. I will mention your name in my prayer, as well as that of the other members of your family, according to the information the Rav communicated to me. I hope to always have good news from you.

בעונג קבלתי את הידיעה מהרב וו״ח אי״א עוסק בצרכי ציבור וכו׳

מוה״ר . . .שנהנמען [קיבל על עצמו לנדב סכום של $1000למטרה כה

נחוצה כמשלוח חבילות מסויימות לאחינו במדינות מסויימות בהן חיים

יהודיים קשים במיוחד ,כפי שהרב . . .בטח ביאר לו.

מצות הצדקה גדולה תמיד ,כפי שחכמינו זכרונם לברכה אומרים,

שמצות הצדקה שקולה כמצוות אחרות יחד .אפשר להבין ,כמה גדולה

צדקה כזו שבשבילה התנדב ,שהיא הצלת נפשות לא רק במובן גשמי

אלא גם במובן רוחני.

כיון שזה עתה חגגנו את חג החנוכה ,כאשר הדלקנו את נרות

החנוכה כל לילה במספר גדול יותר ,יעזור השי״ת שזכות הצדקה הגדולה

שהתנדב תעמוד לזכותו ותכניס אור ושמחה ונחת בביתו ובמשפחתו,

במידה גדלה והולכת ,שיוכל גם להבא לעשות צדקה ומעשים טובים

במידה גדלה והולכת ,בלב שמח ובבריאות הנכונה.
