By the grace of Hashem,

eve of the holy Shabbos* and eve

of Rosh Chodesh* Shevat* 5722,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

the Rav Shmuel Chanoch (note 1: Rav S. H. Liberman),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of this Tuesday, when twice was said the word "good" (note 2: During the Creation). At a propitious moment, your name will be mentioned near the holy tomb of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us.

We are at once on the eve of the holy Shabbos* and of Rosh Chodesh*. Now, both of them, the Shabbos* and the Rosh Chodesh*, symbolize blessing and success in all that concerns the children of Israel, including in material domains. Thus it is written: "You shall call the Shabbos* a delight," which is at once an Injunction and a promise given. Our Sages explain (note 3: See the Shulchan Aruch* of the Admur HaZaken*, laws of Shabbos*, at the beginning of chapter 242) that this delight consists of eating and drinking. Now, one says, on Rosh Chodesh*, that: "they shall renew themselves like it" (note 4: Like the new moon, introducing the month). May Hashem grant that it be so for what concerns you and that you give good news of this. With my blessing,

אשר שניהם, הן השבת והן ראש חדש, מורים על הברכה ועל ההצלחה בעניני בני ישראל, גם בענינים הגשמיים.

וכמה שכתוב, וקראת לשבת ענג, ציווי וגם הבטחה, ופירשו חכמים - עונג אכילה ושתי'. ובר"ח הרי אומרים שהם עתידים להתחדש כמותה וכו',

יהי רצון שיהי' כן בעניניו ויבשר טוב.
