To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Rav Ephraim Eliezer (note 1: Rav E. E. Yalles, of Philadelphia. See, regarding him, letter no. 8288) HaKohen,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter in which you announce to me your birthday. No doubt you observed, on this occasion, the customs recently adopted by the Chassidim*.

May Hashem grant that you have a year of success, both materially and spiritually. You will intensify your study of the Torah* and your practice of the Mitzvos*, in abundance. This concerns above all, quite evidently, the Mitzvah* that you must observe more scrupulously (note 2: The one that brings elevation to all the others), in this case the direction of your holy congregation (note 3: Of which the addressee of the present letter is the Rav). This will illuminate you, as indicated by the Sefer HaSichos* of the summer of 5700 (note 4: 1940, of the previous Rebbe*), at page 22. With my blessing,
