Chag HaGeulah of our liberation and the redemption of our soul,

To the distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem and devotes himself faithfully to communal needs, Rav Moshe Zalman [1],

I greet and bless you,

I received your letter of the eve of Rosh Chodesh Kislev, in which you tell me that your granddaughter Esther is to be married on 19 Kislev.

In addition to the telegram I sent you, I wish once again to express my blessing in writing — Mazal Tov, Mazal Tov. May they build, in a good and auspicious hour, an eternal binyan* blessed with good children. You yourself and the parents of the kallah*, as well as the entire family, will derive much nachas* from them — Yiddishe and chassidic nachas.

My father-in-law, the Rebbe, once said at a farbrengen that the fullness of a man is reached in the third generation, in considering his grandchildren. His explanation is based on the verse "the threefold cord is not quickly broken" and on the commentary of our Sages according to which, when the Torah is maintained for three generations [2], one can say that "it will not depart from your mouth" [3].

Although I do not personally know your granddaughter, I deduce from your letter and from the news I receive from Australia concerning what you accomplish and the place in which you live with your family, that this verse and this commentary of our Sages fully apply to your situation.

All this underscores your own fullness. You have, thank Hashem, educated your children on the path of Yiddishkeit. Moreover, they themselves in turn have been able to do the same for their own children.

This represents a specific merit, especially during the time of galus* and particularly in these recent years, when the darkness is especially strong — all the more so in a country which, for so many years, has been distant from all centers of Torah.

To accomplish what is expected of a Yid under such conditions implies mesiras nefesh*, which one inherits from one's parents and grandparents.

I am certain that you yourself, your children and your entire family will continue your activities and contribute to making Australia a place of Torah and Chassidus — with yeshivos, with good schools for boys and for girls. You will realize all this with the light and the warmth of Chassidus.

I conclude by giving you my blessing that the Rosh Hashanah of the teaching and the ways of Chassidus may enable you and your entire family to be inscribed and sealed for a good year, in the study of Chassidus and in its ways. Thus, you will know blessing and success — as in the conclusion of my father-in-law the Rebbe's letter — "in all your needs, material and spiritual."

נוסף על המברק ששלחתי לו ,רצוני להביע שוב את ברכתי בכתב ,מזל

טוב מזל טוב ,שתהי׳ בשעה טובה ומוצלחת בבנין עדי עד ובדור ישרים

יבורך ,והוא והורי הכלה וכל המשפחה ירוו רוב נחת ,נחת יהודי ונחת

חסידי.

מיוסד על הפסוק חוט המשולש לא במהרה ינתק ,ומאמר רז״ל שכאשר

התורה מחזיקה שלש דורות אזי אפשר לומר לא ימושו מפיך.

למרות שאינני מכיר אישית את נכדתו ,יכול אני לשפוט ממכתביו

ומהדיווחים שהנני מקבל מאוסטרלי׳ אודות עבודתו ואופי החיים שלו ושל

משפחתו שיחיו ,יש לקוות שגם במקרה שלו אפשר לומר את הפסוק ומאמר

רז״ל הנ״ל ,שזה מביא את ההשלמה בו עצמו שב״ה גידל את ילדיו בדרך

היהדות ,ולא רק את ילדיו ,אלא שהחינוך שלהם הי׳ כזה שגם הם חינכו

את ילדיהם שי׳ בדרך היהדות.

במיוחד גדל ערכו בזמן הגלות ,בפרט בשנים אלו ,כאשר החושך כל כך

עב ,ועוד יותר במדינה שכל כך הרבה שנים היתה רחוקה ממרכזי התורה.

בתנאים אלו לבצע מה שיהודי צריך לבצע ,זה כרוך במסירות נפש ,שישנה

בירושה מהורים והורי ההורים.

הנני בטוח ,שהוא וילדיו וכל המשפחה שי׳ ימשיכו הלאה בעבודתם

לסייע לעשות את אוסטרלי׳ למקום תורה וחסידות ,ע״י ישיבות ומוסדות

חינוך כשרים בכלל ,הן לבנים והן לבנות ,ושהעבודה כולה תהי׳ ספוגה באור

וחמימות חסידיים.

אסיים בברכה שראש השנה לתורת החסידות ודרכי החסידות יביא לו

ולכל המשפחה כתיבה וחתימה טובה בלימוד החסידות ודרכי החסידות,

שבדרך ממילא זה יביא לכם גם ברכה והצלחה כפי שהרבי כ״ק מו״ח

אדמו״ר הכ״מ מסיים במכתבו -״בכל הדרוש לכם בגשם וברוח״.
