To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,
You write to me that, according to some, a distinction must be made (note 2: See, on this subject, letters no. 5853 and 5905) between a name that has been added and the one borne from the cradle. You will see, on this subject, the Shulchan Aruch*, Even HaEzer*, chapter 129, paragraph 18, affirming that, quite the contrary, the name that has been changed becomes the principal one. In a general manner, a man is master (note 3: See, on this subject, letter no. 8237) of the names he gives to his children, as well as of that which is his own.
