I bless you and greet you,

I respond to your letter of 2 Adar Rishon*, in which you tell me that you have met a young man, on several occasions. You have decided that he is suitable for you and you ask me my opinion. From the manner in which your letter is written, it seems that each of you, this young man and yourself, wish to establish a home that will be based on the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, a traditional Jewish home. Consequently, this proposal is positive and it will come to fruition at a good and fruitful time. With my blessing to give good news,

P.S.: You tell me that this young man is a Yeshivah* student, but that he does not wear a beard and works in the fabrication of Tefillin*. You will understand that I am surprised by this. One knows (note 1: See, on this subject, letter no. 8297), indeed, to what extent our Sages, in particular in the holy Zohar*, have emphasized the importance of the beard, all the more so since it concerns, in this case, a Yeshivah* student, devoting himself to the fabrication of Tefillin*, that is to say to a particularly sacred mission. Our Sages say (note 2: In tractate Kiddushin* 35a) that: "the entire Torah* has been compared to the Tefillin*." The holy Name of Hashem, His venerable Name, is mentioned therein twenty-one times and all those who will wear these Tefillin* subsequently depend on the fear of Hashem of the one who fabricated them. May Hashem therefore cause that at least in the future, this young man wear the beard, as the holy Zohar* explains. In this manner, the blessing of Hashem will be increased in all his needs.

ומסגנון מכתבה ניכר, אשר כל אחד מהם החליט לייסד ביתם על יסודי התורה והמצוה, בית יהודי מסורתי, הבחור וגם היא.

ועפ"י זה - נכונה ההצעה, ותהי' בשעה טובה ומוצלחת.

והרי ידוע עד כמה הפליגו חכמינו ז"ל ובפרט בזהר הק' - בענין גידול הזקן, ובפרט שהמדובר בבן ישיבה ועוסק בעשיית תפילין, ז. א. מלאכת הקדש מקודש ביותר, וכלשון חכמינו ז"ל, הוקשה כל התורה כולה לתפילין, ועשרים ואחד פעמים נזכר בהם שם הקדוש, שם הנכבד, וכל הלובשים תפילין במשך הזמן, תלוים בהיראת שמים של זה העוסק ועובד בעשיית התפילין.

ויהי רצון שעכ"פ מכאן ולהבא - יגדל זקנו האברך הנ"ל, וע"פ המבואר בזהר הק', תתגדל עי"ז גם ברכת השי"ת בהמצטרך.
