By the grace of Hashem,

Festival of our liberation and
the salvation of our soul,
Brooklyn,

I greet and bless you,

I have read, with pleasure, your letter, in which you tell me that you are studying Chumash* with Rashi's commentary, and the Gemara* tractate Bava Metzia.

My father-in-law and master, our master, the Frierdiker Rebbe, when children gave him satisfaction, was accustomed to grant them the following blessing: "May they grow up, may they be permeated with fear of Hashem, may they be Chassidim and Torah scholars."

It is therefore this same blessing that I address to you. You will grow up, you will fear Hashem, you will be a Chassid and a Torah scholar. All of this depends, for the most part, on your will.

You will pray each day, consulting the Siddur*; you will study Torah with diligence; and you will put into practice the Mitzvos*, to which you are obligated.

Give me, from time to time, news of your study.

בעונג קראתי מכתבך אשר בו אתה מודיע שלומד הנך חומש ורש"י וגמרא בבא מציעא.

מורי וחמי אדוננו מורנו ורבינו, הריני כפרת משכבו, הי' תמיד מברך את אלו הנערים אשר הי' שבע רצון מהם בברכה, שיגדלו ויהיו יראי שמים חסידים ולמדנים. וכן הנני שולח לך בזה ברכה זו, שתגדל והיית ירא שמים חסיד ולמדן. וזה תלוי במידה גדולה ברצונך אתה, שתתפלל בכל יום מתוך הסידור, ושתלמד בשקידה ותקיים את המצוות אשר אתה מחויב בהן.

תודיעני מזמן לזמן על אודות למודיך.
