Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8369 — Prayer

By the grace of Hashem,

26 Adar Rishon* 5722,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter. At a propitious moment, your name will be mentioned at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, in conformity with what you write to me. You allude to forgetfulness. A well-known counsel is stated, in this matter, in the teachings of our Sages (note 1: In tractate Eruvin* 54a), who say: "They (note 2: The words of the Torah*) are life for those who express them by the mouth." One must therefore study aloud and, better still, with a study companion, discussing with him. It is in this manner that one strengthens one's memory.

Furthermore, you will know by heart the Chassidic* discourse entitled: "You shall honor the elder," appearing at the end of Parshas Kedoshim*, in the Likkutei Torah*. Likewise, you will have your Tefillin* checked. Each weekday, before prayer, you will give a few coins to Tzedakah*.

At a propitious moment, I will mention all those you cite at the holy resting place (note 3: Of the Rebbe Rayatz*). Of course, your conduct, your study with impetus and ardor, will broaden the blessing of Hashem so that the wish of your heart be fulfilled positively. With my blessing to give good news of all of this,
