By the grace of Hashem,

I greet and bless you,

In your letter, you describe your situation to me and you tell me that you do not have enough time to carry out your functions as principal[1] of the yeshiva, to teach there in several classes, and at the same time to devote yourself to your business of seforim and sacred objects. You wish, consequently, to resign from your functions as principal of the yeshiva, and you ask me my opinion on this subject.

In my opinion, if you cannot do all of this, you must cease teaching, but you will remain the principal. Let me explain. Our Sages say that a responsibility, even a minor one, is entrusted by Hashem. In this case, this one was assigned to you by my father-in-law, the Frierdiker Rebbe. So much for what concerns you personally. As for the yeshiva, one cannot know whether the one who replaces you will be more or less effective than you. There are still other reasons.

I have good hope that you will be able to assume your functions as principal in parallel with your participation, which is indispensable, in the seforim business, in such a way that neither of these two activities is compromised.

שלום וברכה!

במענה על מכתבו המתאר מצבו כי אין הזמן מספיק לו לנהל עבודת פרינסיפאל בהישיבה ולימוד עם כיתות שם וביחד עם זה גם לנהל עסק הספרים ודברי קדושה שלו, ורוצה משום כך לעזוב משרת הפרינסיפאל בהישיבה ושואל חוות דעתי בזה.

הנה לפי דעתי אם אין הזמן מספיק לכל הענינים הנ"ל, יעזוב את הלימוד עם הכיתות וכיו"ב, אבל לא את משרת הפרינסיפאל. וקצת מן הטעמים שלי בזה, כי אפילו ריש גרגותא משמיא קא ממנו לי', ובפרט שגדולה זו ניתנה לו מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ.

זהו מצדו הוא. ומצד הישיבה הנה אי ברור שזה שימלא מקומו יהי' טוב ממנו או להיפך.

ויש עוד טעמים.

ותקותי אשר יוכל לנהל עבודת הפרינסיפאל לחוד ביחד עם ההשתתפות שאי אפשר בלעדו בעסק הספרים בצדו, באופן שלא יהי' נזק לשני האופנים גם יחד.
