To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem and
devotes himself faithfully to communal needs,

I greet and bless you,

You will find enclosed the kuntres* edited for the occasion of Chanukah. Because of my many activities, its publication has been delayed, but, even now, you will no doubt find great interest in it.

I am responding to your letter. I thank you for having taken the trouble to spread my opinion and my counsel, regarding the elections.[2] On the occasion, you have surely transmitted to the great Rav, distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem, Rav Y. A. HaLevi Herzog,[3] what I wrote to you in my previous letter.

You tell me that, from time to time, you have questions on the Shulchan Aruch of the Alter Rebbe, and you wish to ask me about them. It is quite obvious that I would be pleased to read your commentaries on the Torah in general, and those that bear on the opinion of the Alter Rebbe in particular. But you must not hold it against me if my response is delayed, because of my many occupations, which increase from day to day.

With my blessing for the festival of Chanukah, so that each of us may merit to light the candles "at the door of his house, toward the outside," and to illuminate in an ever-increasing manner,

במענה על מכתבו, ת"ח על טרחתו בפירסום דעתי והצעתי בענין הבחירות, ובטח בהזדמנות הראוי' מסר ג"כ להרה"ג וו"ח אי"א נו"נ וכו' וכו' מהרי"א הלוי שי' הרצוג על פי מה שכתבתי לכת"ר במכתבי הקודם.

מה שכותב שמזמן לזמן יש איזה שקו"ט בשו"ע רבינו הזקן ורוצה לכתוב לי עד"ז, הנה פשוט אשר אתענג לקרא חידושי תורתו בכלל, ובפרט בהנוגע לבירור דעת רבינו הזקן, ובלבד שלא יקפיד עלי אם יתאחר המענה על מכתבו מפני רוב הטרדות אשר סבבוני והולכים וגדלים מזמן לזמן.

בברכת חנוכה שנזכה כאו"א מאתנו, להדה"נ על פתח הבית בחוץ, ולהיות מוסיף והולך,
