By the grace of Hashem,

To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,

devotes himself to communal needs, possesses

multiple fields of knowledge, Rav Sh. Y. (note 1: Rav Shlomo Yosef Zevin, of Yerushalayim*. See, regarding him, letter no. 8390),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 16 Iyar*, in which you speak to me of the person with whom you conversed. If the fear of this man is inspired by statements concerning me, he can completely (note 2: The Rebbe* underlines the word: 'completely') forget all of this, for resentment is totally foreign to me. Nevertheless, since he himself speaks of Tzedakah*, let him give twenty-five Israeli pounds to the Yeshivah* Toras Emes* (note 3: The Lubavitch Yeshivah of Yerushalayim*). If his fear is inspired by words lacking respect toward my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, or toward his father, the Rebbe* (note 4: The Rebbe Rashab*), heaven forbid, you yourself will tell him what is fitting to do, according to the Torah*.

All that I can do, for my part, is to mention his name at the holy resting place (note 5: Of the previous Rebbe*) so that there be no more trace of all this. Regarding the amount of the Tzedakah*, in this matter, he will rely on the generosity of his heart. The more one gives... (note 6: The better it is), on condition of doing so with enthusiasm. May Hashem cause you to announce to me of all this only a visible and tangible good. With my respects and my blessing,

במענה למכתבו מט"ז אייר, בנוגע... שדבר עמו וכו',

והנה באם חושש הנ"ל לדברים בהנוגע אלי, יסיח דעתו מזה לגמרי , כי אין זה מעניני כלל (ענינים של קפידא וכו').

ורק שכיון שמעורר בנוגע לצדקה, יתן כ"ה ל"י לישיבת תורת אמת.

באם החשש הוא לדברים הפוגעים ח"ו בכבוד כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר או כ"ק אביו אדמו"ר - זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע - יורהו כת"ר ע"פ תורה מה שעליו לעשות בזה,

ומה שבידי הוא, שאזכירו על הציון הק' שהנ"ל לא יעשה רושם כלל,

ובהנוגע להפרשה לצדקה בקשר עם זה, יפריש כפי נדבת לבו. וכל המרבה וכו' ובלבד שיהי' בטוב לבב.

ויהי רצון שבכל האמור אך בטוב הנראה והנגלה יבשר.
