To the distinguished young men, completing their schooling in

the fourth graduating class of the Chabad* school of Yafo*,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter and your photograph. In conformity with your request, I will mention your names (note 1: Presumably at the resting place of the Previous Rebbe*) for good and for blessing. It has already been explained (note 2: See, for example, letters no. 8426 and 8432) to graduating students, that, for all that concerns holiness, in general, and the study of the Torah*, in particular, a conclusion can only be interpreted as a beginning, as a preparation for a higher level of study and of daily life based on the Torah* and its Mitzvos*. Consequently, I have good hope that each of you will continue, advance with this strength, attaching and binding himself truly to the path of the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, with Chassidic* vitality and warmth, in an ever increasing manner.

Your letter was written on the eve of the time of the giving of our Torah*, Torah* of life and eternal Torah*. No doubt you will therefore always remember that the Torah* was given only when all proclaimed: "Our children will be our guarantors" (note 3: See, on this subject, letter no. 8424). Now, this guarantee concerns the entire people of the children of Israel. Consequently, you have the means of assuming it yourselves and of influencing others so that they do the same. Indeed, the assurance has been given to us (note 4: In tractate Yoma* 38b. See the Likkutei Torah*, commentaries of Shemini Atzeres*, page 88b) that: "one comes to the aid of the one who wants to purify himself," which means both to purify oneself and to purify others. May Hashem grant success to each of you, both materially and spiritually. With my blessing,

בנועם קבלתי מכתבם וכן תמונתם, וכבקשתם אזכירם לטובה ולברכה.

כבר מלתי אמורה לבוגרים ומסיימים שבעניני קדושה בכלל, ובלימוד התורה בפרט, לא שייך סיום אלא במובן של התחלה והכנה למדריגה יותר גבוה' בלימוד התורה ובחיי יום-יום על פי תורה ומצוותי'. ולכן התקוה חזקה שכל אחד ואחד מכם ימשיך וילך בכח זה בהתקשרות ודבקות אמתית בדרך התורה והמצוות בחיות וחום חסידותיים, מוסיף והולך.

וכיון שמכתבם נכתב ערב זמן מתן תורתנו, תורת חיים ותורה נצחיית, בודאי יזכרו תמיד כי לא ניתנה התורה עד שנעשו בנינו ערבים בעדינו, הרי ערבות זו נוגעת לכל עם בני ישראל, ובידיכם לקיימה, הן בנוגע לעצמכם והן בהשפעה על זולתכם, והובטחנו הבא לטהר, וכדיוק בזה ליטהר ולטהר אחרים, מסייעין אותו.

והשי"ת יצליח את כל אחד ואחד מכם בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
