To the Rav, distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem,
Rav Menachem Shmuel Dovid,[1] emissary of the Sages,

I greet and bless you,

I have just received your letter of 27 Kislev, in which you tell me about your Chassidic gathering of last 19 Kislev. You conclude by informing me that you have decided to organize a public meeting this Wednesday in the home of Mr. Weksler[2] and that Mr. Flet will be the chairman.

I congratulate you for all this, even if it is regrettable that nothing of the sort was done earlier — but complaining about what is past is of no use. What matters only is that your eagerness be, in the future, in measure with what it must be, given the importance of what is at stake.

I attach a copy of my letter to Mr. Weksler[3] and to Mr. Flet. It would be good for its content to be disseminated to those who will participate in this meeting.

You tell me, in your letter, that you wish to leave Los Angeles right after this meeting, in order to be in New York for the Hilula.[4]

Finding yourself here for the Hilula is, certainly, a good thing. And you will determine the date on which you will leave Los Angeles based on the results of this meeting. For it is clear that after it, the decisions will need to be materialized and the funds collected.[5] I fear that, if you do not supervise the operations, the resolutions will not be followed by effect.

When the meeting is over and you can ascertain that everything is being put in place, you will be able to fix the date of your departure from Los Angeles.

Another point: it seems to me I have already told you that it would be good to bring to Los Angeles a group of energetic young men, from among the students of the yeshiva. Little by little, these will gather around themselves the Chassidim and those who follow them. Thus, the Chassidim will occupy, in Los Angeles and its region, the place that is rightfully theirs. That is why I asked whether Chassidim could settle in your city as ritual slaughterers of poultry or cattle, and what their salary would be.

You will kindly transmit the content of this letter to Rav Y. L. Posner,[6] or even show it to him. Indeed, because of my many activities, I do not know when I will be able to respond personally to his letter.

I await good news from you, as soon as possible.

You mention, in your letter, Rav Shraga Feivish Weiller. You no doubt know that his son is a well-known communal leader and a very wealthy man, who entrusts substantial sums to his father, Shraga Feivish, so that the latter may distribute them to tzedakah*, to the institutions he deems appropriate.

I mentioned your name while I was at the resting place — and in particular, that this week's meeting be fruitful, as well as everything you undertake. These actions are the channels conveying blessing and success in all your personal needs.

With my blessing, on the occasion of Chanukah, that you light candles in increasing number, that you do so outside, until the steps of the Tarmodaim* disappear.[7]

זה עתה נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ז כסלו, המספר ע"ד התועדותם בי"ט כסלו העבר, ומסיים אשר החליטו לעשות פארלאר מיטינג ביום ד' הבע"ל בביתו של מר וועקסלער שי', ומר פלעט שי' יהי' היושב ראש.

ויישר חילם בזה, אף שחבל על כל זמן העבר שלא יצאו ענינים כאלה לידי פועל, אבל אין צועקין על העבר, ובלבד שמכאן ולהבא יעשו וישתדלו בזה במרץ הראוי לפי גודל ערך הענינים האלו. ומוסג"פ העתק מכתבי למר וועקסלער ולמר פלעט יחיו. ומן הראוי שיפרסמו תוכן מכתבי בין המשתתפים באסיפה כו'.

שואל במכתבו שרוצה לנסוע מלאס אנדזשעלעס מיד אחר האסיפה באופן שיהי' על היא"צ בניו-יארק.

הנה בכלל נכון הדבר שרוצה להיות כאן על היא"צ. ובנוגע הזמן מתי לנסוע מלאס אנדזשעלעס, הנה זה תלוי בתוצאות האסיפה. כי פשיטא אשר אחרי האסיפה הנ"ל עדיין מוכרח יהי' להביא ההחלטות וגביית הכספים לידי פועל, וחוששני שאם לא יהי' כת"ר עומד על גביהם, מי יודע מה יהיו התוצאות הממשיות מזה. ורק אחרי האסיפה ובראותו מהלך הענינים אחרי כן יוכל להחליט מתי לנסוע מלאס אנדזשעלעס.

...ועוד שני'. כמדומה שכבר אמרתי לו שמהנכון שתהי' בלאס אנדזשעלעס קבוצה מאברכי התמימים, בעלי מרץ, כדי שלאט לאט ירכזו סביבותיהם את אנ"ש והשייכים לאנ"ש באופן שיתפסו אנ"ש בלאס אנדזשעלעס וסביבותי' מקומם הראוי' להם. ולכן בקשתי להודיעני אם יש אפשרות בשביל אנ"ש להסתדר שם בתור שוחטי עופות ושוחטי גסות וכיו"ב, גודל השכירות וכו' וכו'.

בבקשה למסור תוכן מכתבי זה גם להרי"ל שי' פויזנער או להראות לו המכתב גופא, כי איני יודע, מפני רוב הטרדות, מתי יהי' אפשר לי לענות לו ביחוד על מכתבו.

ולבשורות טובות אחכה בהקדם האפשרי.

מזכיר במכתבו ר' שרגא פייוואוש וויילער ובטח ידוע לו אשר בנו של הנ"ל הוא עסקן ציבורי ועשיר גדול, ונותן סכומים מסויימים לאביו לחלקם לצדקה ומוסדות כראות עיני אביו שרגא פייוואוש שי'.

בהיותי על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ הזכרתיו לטובה ובמילא נכלל בזה גם הצלחה באסיפה דשבוע זה בפרט, ובכל עניני עסקנותו בכלל, אשר זהו ג"כ הצינורות לברכה והצלחה בעניניו הפרטיים.

בברכת חנוכה שיהי' מוסיף והולך בהדלקת נרות, וגם מבחוץ - עד שיכלה רגלא דתרמודאי,
