Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8444 — Tzedakah

By the grace of Hashem,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Yedidya (note 1: Rav Y. Dinori, of Tel Aviv. See, regarding him, letter no. 5782),

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your request for a blessing, which will be read, at a propitious moment, near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us. May Hashem cause you to give me good news of its content.

We are in the third month (note 2: After that of the exodus from Egypt, the month of Sivan*) and it is on its sixth day that the Torah* was given. Nevertheless, it is indeed the entirety of this month that is connected to the giving of the Torah*, as it is said (note 3: In tractate Shabbos* 88a): "a triple light (note 4: Chumash*, Prophets and Holy Writings), to the triple people (note 5: Kohanim*, Leviim* and Israelites) during the third month." For, it is the Torah* that is the source of blessing and success for the sons and daughters of Israel, in all that concerns them. Nevertheless, the daughters of Israel received it first, as the Mechilta* and the Midrashim* say: "'thus you shall speak,' in a gentle manner, 'to the house of Yaakov*,' the women," then "you shall say" (note 6: With harsh terms, to the house of Israel, the men). With my blessing to give good news, of a true good, "good for the heavens and good for the creatures" (note 7: According to the expression of tractate Kiddushin* 40a), of a good that bears fruit and, simultaneously, of a good that is visible and tangible,

והרי נמצאים אנו בחדש השלישי אשר אף שלכאורה בששי בו ניתנה תורה, הרי מקשרים כל החדש בנתינת התורה ובסגנון ירחא תליתאי אורין תליתאין עמא תליתאי, והרי התורה היא המביאה ברכה והצלחה לבני ובנות ישראל בכל עניניהם ומתחיל בבנות ישראל וכמובא במכילתא ומדרשים, כה תאמר (בלשון רכה) לבית יעקב, אלו הנשים, ואח"כ ותגיד גו'.

בברכה לבשו"ט בטוב האמיתי שהוא טוב לשמים טוב לבריות וטוב העושה פירות וביחד עם זה גם טוב הנראה והנגלה.
