I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 23 Tammuz*, in which you ask me whether it is permitted to change one's rite to adopt that of Chabad*, the rite of the Arizal*. It is evident that such a change is permitted (note 1: See, on this subject, letter no. 8278), on condition that the decision be definitive (note 2: Without possibility of going back). Indeed, one cannot return from the rite of the Arizal* to the Sephardic or Ashkenazic rite, as the later Halachic* Authorities specify.

You surely maintain the three well-known studies, which pertain to the Chumash*, the Tehillim* and the Tanya*. This is in addition to the essential point, the study of the revealed part of the Torah* and of Chassidus*, with enthusiasm and ardor (note 3: The addressee of this letter is presumably a student of the Yeshivah*). At a propitious moment, all those you cite will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us. With my blessing to give good news of all this,

במענה למכתבו מכ"ג תמוז, בו שואל האם מותר לשנות לנוסח חב"ד (נוסח האר"י ז"ל).

פשוט שמותר לשנות, ובלבד שתהי' ההחלטה בזה לתמיד, כיון שאין לשנות מנוסח האר"י ז"ל לנוסח ספרד ואשכנז כמבואר בפוסקים אחרונים.

בטח שומר על שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, נוסף על

העיקר - לימוד בהתמדה ושקידה נגלה וחסידות.

בעת רצון יזכירו כל שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע.
