I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter (note 1: Asking what a couple must do who, inadvertently, had a relation at a time when it was forbidden to them):

A) Until the next Rosh Hashanah*, each of you (note 2: The husband and the wife) will give Tzedakah* for a Talmud Torah* or for a Yeshivah*, whether this institution be destined for boys or for girls. In addition to your habitual participation in this Tzedakah*, this gift will amount to a sum of fifty-three and a half dollars (note 3: See, on this subject, letters no. 3005 and 5073).

B) Over the course of the three coming years, you will set for yourselves one hundred and twenty fasts of four (note 4: The Rebbe* underlines the words: "four," "heaven forfend" and "in joy and enthusiasm") hours, but not of an entire day, heaven forfend, which means that you will eat four hours after rising, in the morning.

C) Above all, you will regret what happened and you will take a good decision, that of being more prudent in the future.

D) Another point, which is also essential, you must place your trust in Hashem, have the certainty that He has granted you expiation, that He has done so in joy and enthusiasm.

E) You will bring at least three couples closer to the observance of the principles of family purity.

F) You will bring about that at least three students be led, through your intervention, to receive an education based on sacred values.

And, Hashem will cause the pregnancy of your wife to go well, that she give birth to a healthy child, at a good and fruitful time. You will both announce good news to me, of a visible and tangible manner. With my blessing to give me these good news,

במענה על מכתבו -

א) עד ר"ה הבע"ל יפריש כאו"א מהם לצדקת ת"ת או ישיבה (לנערים או לנערות), ונוסף על הפרשותיהם הרגילות - 2/531 דולר לערך.

ב) במשך שלש שנים הבע"ל - 120 תענית של ארבע שעות (לא ח"ו של כל היום).

ז. א. שיאכל לאחרי 4 שעות לקימתם משנתם.

וה' ימלא הריון זוג' תי' ותלד זחו"ק בשטומו"צ, ושניהם יבש"ט בטוב הנראה והנגלה.
