You ask me (note 1: The addressee of this letter asked: "Can a shower be considered as the equivalent of a voluntary ritual immersion, that which was instituted by Ezra? Can one accept that one pours upon the body a quantity of water equal to nine Kavin*?" — that is, the minimal quantity to establish a comparison with ritual immersion) about a shower and you ask me whether it can be considered as the equivalent of nine Kavin* (note 2: Approximately 12.44 liters). One finds, on this subject, divergent opinions, which are listed in the Taharas Mayim* of Rav Telushkin and in the Responsa Mishneh Halachos* of Rav Klein. Both authors are from Brooklyn.
