By the grace of Hashem,

9 Teves 5711,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letters of the first and second days of Chanukah, in which you ask me how to repair and atone for your transgressions and your sins.

The first condition for this is sincere regret for what has occurred and a firm resolution not to adopt this senseless conduct any more in the future. Going forward, as kapparah*, you should set yourself a regular study, in which you will increase the words of Torah, of Tehillim*, of the Zohar*. Obviously, this is in addition to the regular studies which every Jew must undertake, without making it a vow.

Likewise, you should answer scrupulously Amen Yehei Shemei Rabba*. You should say Kedushah* and Borchu*. Above all, you should positively influence Jewish children to bring them close to ahavas Hashem*, ahavas Toraso*, and ahavas Yisroel*. Each one is, indeed, a son to Hashem our G‑d.

You will surely let me know what you have done in this area.

Likewise, you will tell me whether you attend yeshiva*.

שלום וברכה!

קבלתי מכתביו מא' ומב' חנוכה, אשר בו שואל תקנה ותשובה על אשמיו וחטאיו.

והנה תנאי ראשון בתקנה ותשובה הוא חרטה גמורה על העבר וקבלה טובה על להבא שלא ישוב לכסלה עוד. ומכאן ולהבא הנה יקבע לו בתור תקנה ותשובה שיעורים באמירת אותיות התורה תהלים וזוהר. כמובן כל זה הוא נוסף על השיעורים הרגילים שכל אחד ואחד מישראל צריך לקחתם עליו בלי נדר.

כן ישתדל בזהירות באמירת אמן יהא שמי' רבא, קדושה וברכו, והעיקר להשפיע על ילדי ישראל לקרבם לאהבת השם יתברך, לאהבת תורתו הקדושה ולאהבת ישראל שכל אחד ואחד מהם הוא בן להשם אלקינו.

ובטח יודיעני מה שעושה בכל זה.

כן יודיעני אם לומד בהישיבה.
