To the directors of the benevolence fund (note 1: The Rebbe* underlines: "benevolence")

found near the Lubavitch house of study,

in Montreal, may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter, with what was enclosed, a copy of the correspondence launching an appeal for contributions to your benevolence fund. May Hashem cause you to know success in this Mitzvah* of a high elevation, Tzedakah* and benevolence, in particular in our era, as Igeres HaKodesh*, of the Admur HaZaken*, explains.

Moreover, this year is the one hundred and fiftieth since the passing of the Admur HaZaken*, who particularly underlined the importance of Tzedakah*. And, he asked all those who followed his path, in his generation, to do the same. Then, in the following generations, our masters and leaders, his successors, followed his example, as their holy talks explain. It was also discussed during the Chassidic* gathering of the 18th of Elul*, last year (note 2: Whose text was published in the Likkutei Sichos*, volume 9, from page 345). With my blessing of success and that you give me good news,

ויהי רצון אשר חפץ ה' בידם יצליח במצוה נעלית האמורה צדקה וגמ"ח, ובפרט בימינו אלה כמבואר באגרת הקדש לרבנו הזקן.

וביחוד שהשנה היא שנת המאה וחמשים להסתלקות רבנו הזקן שהדגיש ביחוד ענין הצדקה, ודרש זה מכל ההולכים בעקבותיו בדורו, ובדורות שלאחריו רבותינו נשיאינו מ"מ כמבואר בשיחות קדושות שלהם וכן המדובר עד"ז בהתועדות דח"י אלול שנה העברה.
