To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, is

descended from an illustrious family, the Rav Yosef Shmuel (note 1: Rav Y. Sh. Morya, of Providence),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter, which was not dated, in which you evoke various aspects of the situation of our brethren, the children of Israel, finding themselves in the United States and in other places. You specify, in particular, what the Rabbanim* and the influential persons must do.

Without doubt, you will speak about this with Rabbanim* who fear the Word of Hashem and with the various rabbinical organizations of this country. Indeed, it has already been said that: "Salvation comes from numerous counselors," especially for what concerns the greatest number.

All is the effect of Divine Providence. I therefore have the obligation and the merit to formulate a remark and to express my hope that you do all that is in your power, or even more than this, to disseminate the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov*, of his disciples and of the disciples of his disciples, in every place where your influence extends. If, in the era of the Baal Shem Tov* and of his holy disciples, we were asked to do so, how much more is this the case in this generation of the heel of Moshiach* (note 2: In proximity to his coming). And, one knows the holy epistle of the Baal Shem Tov* (note 3: Printed at the beginning of the Keser Shem Tov*) according to which, when his wellsprings would spread to the outside, the master would come, that is to say the king Moshiach*. If it is incumbent upon each one to commit fully to all of this, how much more is this the case for those who have the obligation and the merit by virtue of their origins (note 4: The addressee of this letter comes from a Chassidic* family). It is surely unnecessary to say more. Indeed, the merit of what is public comes to your aid. With my respects and my blessing,

במענה למכתבו - בלי הוראת זמן הכתיבה - בו כותב בכמה נקודות במצב אחב"י בארצוה"ב ובשאר מקומות וכו' ובעיקר בהנוגע למה שהרבנים ואנשי השפעה עליהם לעשות בזה.

ובטח יתדבר בזה עם הרבנים החרדים לדבר ה' - אגודות הרבנים השונות שבמדינה זו, וכבר נאמר ותשועה ברוב יועץ ובפרט בענין הנוגע לרבים.

ומאחר שהכל בהשגחה פרטית, עלי החובה (והזכות) להעיר ולהביע תקותי, אשר בודאי עושה ככל האפשרי ויותר מזה להפצת תורת הבעל שם טוב תלמידיו ותלמידי תלמידיו בכל מקום שידו מגעת, ואם בזמן הבעש"ט וחבריא קדישא נצטוינו על זה עאכו"כ בדרא דעקבתא דמשיחא וכידוע אגרת הקדש של הבעש"ט, שלכשיפוצו מעינותיו חוצה קאתי מר, דא מלכא משיחא, ואם על כאו"א לעשות בזה ביותר וביותר הוא על אלו שגזע צור מחצבתם מחייבתם ומזכם, ובודאי האריכות בזה אך למותר, והרי זכות הרבים מסייעתו.
