Greetings and blessings,

In reply to your letter of 26 Kislev:

A) You tell me that you are the teacher of the upper class of the Talmud Torah*[1] and that you wish to leave this position to become a talmid* of the holy Yeshivas Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch, but its director, the Rav, Chassid who fears Hashem and devotes himself faithfully to the needs of the public, R. M.[2], is discouraging you from doing so.

You do well to keep your role as educator, to teach the Torah of Hashem, blessed be He, and, as you write to me, to go several times a week to the yeshiva to study Chassidus* there.

Our Sages explain, in tractate Temurah 15a, that teaching enables one to refine one's understanding, to grasp more quickly what one studies oneself. Moreover, as a teacher, you are within a ray of light and you have the possibility of bringing the hearts of the children of Israel close to their Father in Heaven. To what could one compare the great pleasure one thereby gives Hashem; what other pleasure could equal it?

B) You also write to me that, for the past three years, you sometimes experience pains. You tell me that the doctors you have consulted have been unable to prescribe any treatment.

In my opinion, you should consult a specialist in internal medicine and a neurologist. You will put the two of them in contact, and they will tell you what should be done.

You will also adopt the three studies instituted by my father-in-law, the Rebbe: the daily Tehillim* according to their monthly division, the Chumash* with Rashi's commentary — the parsha* through Sheni on Sunday, through Shlishi on Monday, and so on — and the Tanya* according to its annual cycle of study. These are wide vessels enabling one to draw down a blessing for a refuah sheleimah*.

C) You also ask me about the appropriateness of marrying your niece[3]. In general, it would be good to also study other proposals, which you will then compare to this one. Hashem will guide you on the straight path, and you will choose your wife at a propitious and fruitful moment.

You should recite Tehillim 71[4] each day. You will do so until 12 Tammuz[5] next.

I would like to know your study program at the Talmud Torah*, the number of talmidim* you have in your class. Do you teach them halachos* and that which awakens fear of Hashem?

במענה על מכתבו מכ"ו כסלו

(א) המודיע אשר הוא מורה לתלמידים בתלמוד תורה בכתה גבוהה ושרצה לעזוב עבודתו זאת ולהכנס בתור תלמיד בישיבה הקדושה "אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש" ומנעו המנהל הרה"ח וו"ח אי"א עוסק בצרכי ציבור באמונה וכו' הר"מ שי' מזה.

טוב עשה שממשיך בעבודת החינוך ללמד תורת השם יתברך ויתעלה, ובאשר כפי מכתבו הנה איזה פעמים בשבוע מבקר הוא בישיבתנו הק' ושומע דברי חסידות, הנה על פי מאמר רז"ל (תמורה טו, א) לימודו בתור מורה תביא תועלת להבנה יותר טובה ותפיסה יותר מהירה בלימודו הוא, נוסף על זה אשר בתור מורה זכה לקרן אורה לקרב לבן של בני ישראל לאביהם שבשמים. ומה ידמה ומה ישוה לגודל הנחת רוח שגורם הוא על ידי זה למעלה מעלה.

(ב) עוד כותב שזה שלש שנים שמרגיש שהוא לפעמים כאב ולפי דבריו הרופאים שבקר אותם לא מצאו תרופה לזה.

הנה לדעתי יבקר רופא מומחה לאברים פנימיים ורופא מומחה לעצבים (נערווען) וישתדל שיתדברו ביניהם ויתנו לו הוראות בהנהגה. ושמירת ג' השיעורים שקבע כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע הכ"מ, שהם: אמירת תהלים בכל יום כמו שנחלקו לימי החודש, חומש עם פרש"י (ביום ראשון בפרשת השבוע עד שני, ביום שני משני עד שלישי וכו'), ולימוד התניא כפי שנחלק לימי השנה, הרי הם כלים רחבים להמשיך ברכה לרפואה קרובה.

(ג) עוד שואל אם יחשוב על דבר שידוך עם בת אחיו, הנה בכלל כדאי להתענין גם כן בהצעות אחרות, ואח"כ ישוה אותם להצעה עם בת אחיו שת' והאלקים ינחנו בדרך הישר שיבחר את זיווגו בשעה טובה ומוצלחת. ויאמר בכל יום תהלים קאפ' ע"א וכן יעשה עד י"ב תמוז הבע"ל.

אתענין לדעת מהו סדר הלימודים שלומד בתלמוד תורה, וכמה תלמידים יש בכתה שלו, ואם לומדים עמהם דינים וענינים של יראת שמים.
