I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of the 17th of Teves*. I thank you, furthermore, for your greetings and for the books you addressed to me, according to the list that appears in the annex. Without doubt, you will continue to do so, in the future. I thank you in advance.

Basing myself on the impression that resulted from our meeting and on our discussion, I permit myself to point out to you that there is a concrete interest in providing, in books of common usage, a thread inserted in the binding, which can serve as a bookmark. A fortiori is this the case for the book of books (note 2: The Bible). Indeed, there is no doubt that you distribute this gift so that one may use this sacred book as often as possible. Now, your function requires that you interrupt yourself very often (note 3: Perhaps the army). This bookmark is therefore even more important, for what concerns you.

I hope that the pocket encyclopedia that you had sent me found a favorable response and that it was widely distributed. You surely took part, in the fitting manner, in the gathering of the 24th of Teves*, date of the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the passing of the Admur HaZaken*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, father of the Chabad* movement and of its philosophy. This reminds me that, in your pocket encyclopedia, the last article is "Tanya*," according to the memory I have of it. With my respects, my blessing, and thanking you once again,

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מי"ז בטבת, ות"ח גם כן עבור הפ"ש והספרים ששלח, כרשום בשולי הגליון. ובודאי גם להבא יעשה כן ותודה מראש.

על יסוד הרושם מפגישתנו ושיחתנו ארשה לי להעיר שבנוגע לספרי שימוש בכלל יש תועלת מעשית גדולה בחוט דבוק בכריכה לסמן המקום שמפסיקים בו. בפרט כשהמדובר בספר הספרים, שבודאי הכוונה בחלוקת מתנה זו שישתמשו בספר קדוש זה לעתים הכי תכופות, ומתנאי תפקידיהם שההפסקה מצוי', שלכן משנה חשיבות לחוט שכזה.

תקותי שהאנציקלופדיא-כיס ששלח לי מאז מצא הד נכון והוא נפוץ ברבים.

בטח השתתף באופן המתאים בעצרת כ"ד טבת, ביום מלאות מאה וחמשים שנה להסתלקותו של אדמו"ר הזקן בעל התניא והשלחן-ערוך, אבי תנועת חב"ד ושיטתה. וזה מזכירני שבאנציקלופדיא הכיס שלו סיומו בערך "תניא", כרשום בזכרוני.
