By the grace of Hashem,

25 Shevat* 5723,

To the students of the third, fourth, and sixth classes

of the Yeshivah* Achei Temimim* Lubavitch of Buffalo,

may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letters of the 21st and 22nd of Teves*, which reached me even before the 24th of Teves*, date of the passing, of the Hilula* of the Admur HaZaken*, author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, father of the Chabad* movement and of the Chabad* Lubavitch philosophy.

I read therein, with much pleasure, that you desire to participate also in the collection that is organized for the Shneur fund (note 1: See, on this subject, the Likkutei Sichos*, volume 9, at page 345), with the money that you yourselves collected, through material Tzedakah*. A fortiori do you desire to take part in what is fundamental for you, the study of our holy Torah*, with impetus and ardor, a study that leads to action, to the practice of the Mitzvos* in the best manner, a good conduct that befits students of the Yeshivah* Achei Temimim* Lubavitch, with the joy of the Mitzvah*, being penetrated with love of Hashem, love of the Torah*, and love of one's fellow, sentiments which are the fundamental principles of the teaching dispensed by him whose Hilula* we celebrate.

You surely know to what extent the masters of Chabad* gave of themselves, the Baal Shem Tov*, the Admur HaZaken*, the masters of Chabad* who came afterward, for the education of the sons and daughters of Israel, for the hopes they placed in them, in their future. I therefore formulate the wish that you will make efforts, with determination and enthusiasm, in this matter, and that you will give a concrete application to this hope. This depends only on you and on your will. And, our Sages have given the assurance (note 2: In tractate Megillah* 6b) that: "if you make efforts, they will be crowned with success." For, he who sanctifies himself "a little" here below receives from above an "immense" sanctification (note 3: According to tractate Yoma* 39a). A fortiori is this so when one sanctifies oneself more than "a little."

May Hashem positively fulfill the wishes of your heart, both materially and spiritually. With my blessing,

חב"ד-ליובאוויטש.

ומאד נעם לי לקרוא שרצונכם להשתתף גם במגבית "קרן שניאור" בממון שקבצתם על יד, בצדקה גשמית. קל וחומר שרצונכם להשתתף בענין שהוא עקרי לכם, היינו לימוד תורתנו הק' בהתמדה ושקידה, לימוד המביא לידי מעשה קיום המצוות בהידור והנהגה טובה כיאות לתלמידי ישיבת "אחי תמימים" ליובאוויטש, מתוך שמחה של מצוה, חדורי אהבת ה', אהבת התורה ואהבת ישראל, שהם מעקרי תורתו של בעל ההילולא.

בטח ידוע לכם כמה התמסרו נשיאי החסידות - הבעל שם טוב, אדמו"ר הזקן ונשיאי חב"ד שלאחריו - לחינוך בני ובנות ישראל, והתקוות והעתידות שציפו מהם. ואני תפילה שתשתדלו בכל עוז ומרץ לקיים ולאמת התקוות האלו בפועל ממש, ואין הדבר תלוי אלא בכם ורצונכם. וכבר הבטיחו חכמינו ז"ל יגעת ומצאת ומי שמקדש עצמו "מעט" למטה מקדשין אותו "הרבה" מלמעלה, על אחת כמה וכמה כשמקדש עצמו יותר ממעט.

השם יתברך ימלא משאלות לבכם לטובה, בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
