To the attention of Mr. Eliyahu Amikam,

I greet you and bless you,

I wanted to write to you, for some time already, but I did not know where to find you. I have just learned that you are already in Eretz Yisrael* and I was able to obtain your address. First of all, I wish to thank you for this book. Our library is at the disposal of the greatest number and I therefore have good hope that you will contribute to it again, in the future.

I also hope that you keep in your memory the impressions of our meeting and of our discussion, that above all our exchange relative to communal affairs, some of which are vital and fundamental, will bear fruits and that it will be of interest for the greatest number.

One can observe concretely, especially in our era and most particularly after the discovery of the most terrifying energy, in the most infinitesimal quantity (note 1: The atom), that a single individual can sometimes be at the origin of the most fundamental change for the existence of the greatest number. Indeed, it is the quality and not the quantity that is determinative. Now, if this is so for inert matter, how much more is this the case for the physical aspect of the Jewish body and, a fortiori, for the spiritual existence of our people, the children of Israel. But, to obtain this result, each one must reveal the energy that he carries within himself, for it is, in fact, unlimited. According to the terms of the Admur HaZaken* (note 2: At the beginning of the second chapter of the Tanya*), author of the Tanya* and the Shulchan Aruch*, this year being the one hundred and fiftieth since his passing, "the second soul of Israel (note 3: The divine soul) is a veritable (note 4: The Rebbe* underlines the word "veritable") part of Hashem above," for it issues from the Ein Sof*, blessed be He. It itself and all its forces are therefore also infinite. With my respects and my blessing in order to give me good news,

זה מזמן שרציתי לכתוב לו ולא ידעתי איפה נמצא, ועתה נודעתי שנמצא כבר בא"י והכתובת שלו.

ראשית כל אביעה לו ת"ח בעד הספר, וכיון שהספרי' שלנו היא לתועלת הרבים, תקותי שימשיך בכגון דא גם בעתיד.

תקותי שגם בזכרונו שמורים רשמי פגישתנו ושיחתנו, והעיקר שהדברים שנדברו בינינו בנוגע עניני הכלל, ומהם כמה בעיות הכי חיוניות ורציניות, יביאו פירות ותועלת גם לרבים.

והרי רואים במוחש, ובדורנו זה במיוחד אחרי גלוי האנרגי' הכי מבהילה הנמצאת בכמות הכי קטנה, אשר לפעמים ביכולת היחיד להביא שנוי יסודי בחיי הרבים, כי לא הכמות היא המכרעת אלא האיכות. ואם בחומר ובגשם הדומם כך, על אחת כמה וכמה בחומר וגשם גוף הישראלי וביתר שאת בנוגע לחיים הרוחניים של עמנו בני ישראל.

אלא שעל היחיד לגלות כל האנרגי' שבקרבו, שבאמת אין-סופית היא, ובסגנון רבינו הזקן בעל התניא והשו"ע, שהשנה היא שנת המאה וחמשים להסתלקותו, הנפש השנית בישראל היא חלק אלוק ממעל ממש , וכיון שמקורה באין-סוף ב"ה, הרי היא וכל כוחותי' אין-סופיים.
