Igrot Kodesh · Letter 8616 — Tzedakah

To the young man Menachem Mendel (note 1: M. M. Harrach, of New York) HaKohen,

I greet you and bless you,

I received the Haggadah* that you were so kind as to send here and our Sages say that: "the wine belongs to its owner, but one expresses one's gratitude to him who serves it," since he possesses free will (note 2: And, can therefore decide not to give it). You will consult, on this subject, the Sefer HaMitzvos* of the Tzemach Tzedek*, at the Mitzvah* of circumcision, end of chapter 3.

To pass from one idea to another while remaining in the same context, I will say that the importance of the first evening of Pesach*, when one reads the Haggadah*, resides in the fact that at that moment: "the King, supreme King, the Holy One, blessed be He, revealed Himself to them, in all His Essence (note 3: The Rebbe* underlines the words: "in all His Essence")." And, this is an additional encouragement to study the profound dimension of the Torah*, as the Zohar* explains, volume 3, at page 152a. This is quite evident.

These days are propitious to obtain such a result and one knows the words of our masters and chiefs, on this subject. With my blessing in order to give me good news,

שלום וברכה!

מאשר הנני קבלת ההגדה אשר טרח לשלחה לכאן, וכבר אמרו חז"ל, חמרא למרא וטיבותא לשקי', כשהמדובר בבעל בחירה (עיין ספר המצות לאדמו"ר הצ"צ, מצות מילה סוף פרק ג')

ומענין לענין באותו ענין, כיון שעילוי ליל פסח הראשון (זמן ההגדה) הוא שנגלה עליהם ממה"מ הקב"ה בכבודו ובעצמו , מזה התעוררות נוספת ללימוד פנימיות התורה עיין זח"ג קנ"ב א' וק"ל.

והרי הימים ימי סגולה להנ"ל כידוע דברי קדש רבותינו נשיאינו בזה.
