To the young man Ezra Benyamin (note 1: E. B. Shochat. See, regarding him, letters no. 8207 and 8663),

I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of this Tuesday, when twice the word "good" was said (note 2: During the creation). I am very surprised that you tell me nothing of the actions you are leading to disseminate Judaism, which includes, of course, the propagation of the wellsprings of Chassidus*. The school year has reached its end and, even if, according to Halachah*, this has no incidence, even if the necessity to study the Torah* applies always in the same manner, concrete practice dictates that it is not so, for different reasons. One therefore has more free time for such activities and the assurance has been given to us (note 3: In tractate Yoma* 38b) that one comes to the aid of those who desire to purify themselves. Furthermore, the Admur HaZaken* adds (note 4: In the Likkutei Torah*, commentaries on Shemini Atzeres*, at page 88b) that this means also that one must purify others!

Without doubt, you always maintain the three well-known studies that bear on the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*, in addition to your study (note 5: In the framework of the Yeshivah*), with impetus and ardor, of the revealed part of the Torah* and of its profound dimension, which, in our era, has been revealed through Chassidus*. This must be studied every day and, in an increased manner, during Shabbos*, which is holy for Hashem. With my blessing in order to give me good news of all this,

במענה למכתבו מיום השלישי שהוכפל בו כי טוב,

לפלא גדול שאין מזכיר דבר מפעולותיו בהפצת היהדות, ובזה כמובן ופשוט ומוכרח - בענין הפצת המעינות דא"ח, והרי בבין-הזמנים דהלימוד הוא, אשר אף שע"פ דין אין נפק"מ וגם אז מצות תלמוד תורה בתקפה, הרי מכמה סיבות הבפועל הוא לא כן, ובמילא זמן פנוי יותר לפעולות האמורות, והובטחנו הבא לטהר, וידוע דיוק רבנו הזקן, לטהר גם אחרים, מסייעין אותו.

בודאי שומר גם עתה שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, נוסף על שיעוריו לימוד בהתמדה ושקידה הן נגלה דתורה והן בפנימיות התורה שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות, בכל יום ובהוספה ביום השבת אשר קדש הוא לה'.
