To the Rav, distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem,

Rav Chanoch Hendel[1],

Greetings and blessings,

In reply to your letter of 2 Teves, informing me that your daughter Malka Yehudis has had a daughter, in a propitious and fruitful moment. I hereby extend to her my blessing of Mazel Tov*, Mazel Tov*. May her mother and father raise her to Torah, chuppah*, and good deeds, in expansive measure.

A name has surely been given to her as quickly as possible, and I am surprised that you do not mention it. You know the teaching[2] which my father-in-law, the Rebbe, gives in this regard. It is based on the fact that the Alter Rebbe asked the Mitteler Rebbe not to wait for Shabbos* to give a name to his daughter who had just been born; on the contrary, she should be named at the kriah*, the Torah reading nearest to the birth. This contradicts the view found in the collections of customs, according to which one must first wait several days.

I conclude by extending to you my blessing that you should derive much nachas* from your granddaughter and from all your descendants, that you should announce only good news always and every day.

במענה על מכתבו מב' טבת המבשר כי בתו מלכה יהודית תחי' ילדה בת למזל טוב בשעה טובה ומוצלחת, הנני לשלוח בזה ברכתי ברכת מזל טוב, מזל טוב, ויגדלוה אמה ואבי' לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבה.

בטח קראו לה שם בהקדם, ולפלא שלא הודיע מזה, כי ידועה הוראת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ על יסוד מאורע בהוראת אדה"ז לאדמו"ר האמצעי שלא לחכות בנתינת השם לבת הנולדת עד יום שבת קדש ויקראו לה שם ביום הקריאה הראשון, ודלא כמובא בספרי מנהגים לחכות איזה ימים.

החותם בברכה שירוה נחת מנכדתו תי' זו ומכל יוצאי חלציו בגשמיות וברוחניות, ואך בשורות טובות יבשר תמיד כל הימים,
