To the Chassidic Rabbi, man of truth, Hashem-fearing, communal worker, of noble descent, etc., etc., Rabbi Sh., may he live,[1]

Peace and blessing!

I hereby acknowledge receipt of the letter.

And "a matter is dressed in its wearer more preciously"[2] — the story he writes about my father-in-law the Rebbe, the Nasi* of our generation. And after all, the blessings of tzaddikim endure forever and accomplish their effect, and particularly according to the saying of our Sages[3] that a tzaddik who has departed is found more than in his lifetime, and as explained in Iggeres HaKodesh of the Alter Rebbe — whose 150th yahrzeit is this year — siman 27 and its commentary.

At an auspicious time they will mention at the holy gravesite of my father-in-law the Rebbe, zy"a, those about whom he writes — each according to what is needed for him in accordance with the content of his letter. And may it be the Will, from Hashem, that just as he brought the request, so may he report good [tidings] in this; for the merit of his ancestors, a lineage of royal princes, aids him.

The hope is strong that he is striving to spread the wellsprings of the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov and his students and their students' students in every place his hand reaches, and even to "outward" itself.

And may it be the Will that soon we shall merit the fulfillment of the prediction brought in the well-known Iggeres HaKodesh to the Baal Shem Tov,[4] that "when your wellsprings shall spread forth outward — comes the master, this being King Moshiach*."

The story he writes: When my Rebbe the Rebbe Rayatz came to N.Y. at that time, one of my acquaintances named Chaim Silver suddenly became ill — see Igrot Kodesh of the Rebbe Rayatz Vol. 7 letters 1868 and 1959 — with an illness and the doctors despaired of his life. He asked me, since my late father had been a chassid of Lubavitch and his Rebbe had come to N.Y., to write to him and bless him for a full recovery, and also that he would give whatever sum of tzedakah the Rebbe would obligate. A reply came back from the Rebbe zt"l that he should give $1,000 to Tomchei Temimim in Montreal, and "an angel of one hundred is not comparable to an angel of one thousand," and he lived and arose on his feet, and immediately sent his son to Montreal and paid the money. And the month after the Rebbe zt"l passed away, in the second month, Mr. Silver passed away. Saying of our Sages: Zohar III 280a. ומילתא אלבישייהו יקירא, הסיפור שכותבו ע"ד כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר נשיא דורנו, והרי ברכות צדיקים קיימות לעד ופועלות פעולתן, ובפרט ע"פ מאמר רז"ל דצדיקא דאתפטר אשתכח יתיר מבחיוהי וכפי המבואר באגרת הקודש לרבנו הזקן - אשר השנה שנת המאה וחמשים להסתלקות הילולא שלו - סי' ז"ך וביאורו.

בעת רצון יזכירו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אלה שכותב אודות[ם] כל אחד להמצטרך לו מתאים לתוכן כתבו. ויהי רצון מהשי"ת שכמו שהביא הבקשה כן יבשר טוב בזה, והרי זכות אבותיו גזע תרשישים מסייעתו.

התקוה חזקה שמשתדל בהפצת מעינות תורת הבעל שם טוב ותלמידיו ותלמידי תלמידיו בכל מקום שידו מגעת ועד לחוצה ממש.

ויהי רצון שבקרוב נזכה לקיום היעוד המובא באגרת הקדש הידועה להבעש"ט, שכשיפוצו מעינותיו חוצה קאתי מר דא מלכא משיחא.

הסיפור שכותבו: בע תבואו של כ"ק אדמו"ר מהרויי"צ נ"ע לנ.י. בעת הזאת חלה פתאום אחד ממיודעי שמו חיים סילוור [ראה אג"ק אדמו"ר מהוריי"צ ח"ז אגרות א'תתסח א'תתקנט - אליו] במחלת.. והדקטורים נואשו לחייו, ובקש ממני היות אבי ע"ה הי' חסיד מחסידי ליובאוויטש והרבי שלו בא לנ.י. לכתוב לו ולברכו ברפואה שלימה, וגם יתן צדקה כמה שהרבי יחייב, ובא בחזרה מכתב מהרבי זצ"ל שיתן אלף דאלר לתומכי תמימים במונטריאל ואינו דומה מלאך של מאה למלאך של אלף, ויחי ויקם על רגליו ותיכף שלח את בנו למונטריאל ושלם המעות.. והחודש שהרבי זצ"ל נסתלק תיכף בחודש השני נפטר מר סילוור ע"ה.
