To the distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I was pleased to be informed of your situation, and I hope that you will be able to give good news, always and every day, of your wife's physical condition and of your spiritual situation.

I enclose a kuntres* published for 24 Teves and the collective letter accompanying it[2]. If you have any remarks to formulate in this regard, I would be happy to know them.

As I have once explained, the word gabbai* — the one in charge of a shul* — is composed of the initial letters of the phrase "Please, by the strength and the greatness of Your right hand." It follows that one who, by Divine Providence, has been chosen to become the gabbai* of a shul* must make use of the attribute of chesed*, of his right hand.

You must therefore exercise a strong influence and, at the same time, demonstrate kindness, so that your shul* should be a Chassidic one, that it should illuminate and warm all that surrounds it.

שמחתי לקבל פ"ש ממנו, והנני מקוה כי יוכל לבשר טוב תמיד כל הימים ממצבו הטוב ומצב [זוגתו] תחי' בגשמיות וכן ממצבם הטוב ברוחניות.

כפי שאמרתי פעם, הנה גבא"י ראשי תיבות: א נא ב כח ג דולת י מינך, זאת אומרת, מי אשר בהשגחת הבורא ית' נבחר להיות גבאי בביהכנ"ס צריך שיהי' לו כח בחסד (ימינך), ובלשון של בקשה (אנא), היינו שהשפעתו תהי' חזקה, אבל עם זה שישתמש בה במידת החסד, לעשות את ביהכנ"ס שיהי' א חסידישע שול ולהאיר ולהחם את כל הסביבה.
